Safety Check: Great Britain-Based Deliveroo’s UAE Division Pays Tribute To Cautious Drivers

When it comes to drivers delivering the needs of their customers, safety on the road is even more paramount. In 2021, while roadway fatalities and the fatality rate consistently declined for three decades, over 43,000 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes, of which around over 7,000 were people walking. Furthermore, millions were injured, sometimes permanently, each year, the highest number of fatalities that year since 2005. Those figures are from the USA Department of Transportation.

The similar situation happens across the globe, which is why Deliveroo, headquartered in the United Kingdom, is celebrating the “Cautious Rider Award” for the third time. This award is also an initiative designed to recognize riders or drivers who consistently demonstrate outstanding road safety standards and responsible riding behavior.

The award evaluates the winning drivers based on a wide range of safety-focused criteria, which include adherence to traffic regulations and responsible riding conduct within a given year.

Through this initiative, Deliveroo aims to encourage optimistic behavior on the road, reward excellence, and highlight riders who set a strong example in the industry. It also fosters the company’s ongoing efforts to promote the well-being of riders and foster a safety culture within its community of riders.

Some of the award-winning Deliveroo riders were given financial rewards, and official certificates of recognition for their strong safety track records and overall commitment to upholding, adhering to, and implementing the best practices while on the road.

“Road safety is a fundamental part of how we operate, and throughout the year, we work closely with riders, agencies and authorities to ensure clear, consistent communication and training. The annual Cautious Rider Award reflects our focus on setting clear standards and recognising riders who consistently apply the best practices on the road. By celebrating exemplary conduct, we aim to reinforce behaviours that support a safer and more sustainable delivery ecosystem across the UAE,” stated Deliveroo’s director of operations overseeing the region, too, Yazan Aburaqabeh.

Meanwhile, here are some tips on how you, as a rider, could stay safe while on the road:

  • Always wear seatbelts and ensure passengers are buckled securely inside.
  • Obey speed limits and adjust your driving to suit the weather conditions safely.
  • Avoid distractions like phones, and keep full attention on driving always.
  • Follow road signs and safety supplies installed around, such as traffic cones and traffic barricades.
  • Maintain a safe following distance to allow enough reaction time ahead.
  • Regularly service your vehicle to prevent unexpected mechanical failures roadside.

With offices in Great Britain, Deliveroo operates globally, connecting customers with local restaurants, grocery stores, and other retailers. It enables on-demand ordering and delivery through its app or website, using a rider network for fast service.

It likewise operates as a three-sided marketplace, generating revenue by charging commissions to restaurants and fees to customers, and offers a wide range of options, which include restaurant meals, groceries, and pharmacy items.
