Don’t compare the fees you pay for a rideshare in your country to those in the USA. In your country, ridesharing fees may be almost the same regardless of which city you are in. However, in the United States, the situation is different.
A recent study by online lender NetCredit has revealed which cities and destinations in the country charge the highest Uber fees. Washington tops the list, with Cheyenne in Wyoming in second place. How interesting. This list will help you plan your trips, especially when you don’t want to be caught off guard once your road trip with Uber is over.
Curious which cities have made it infamously on this list? Read on.
Seattle is #1, Cheyenne in 2nd place
What an intelligent move from NetCredit, determining which cities and destinations in the United States charge the highest Uber fees.
For the research, the NetCredit team, which spearheaded it, checked the prices of a 30-minute Uber ride – not in every city in the country – but in each of the 100 largest cities, alongside the three most significant cities in each state. Then, the findings or the figures were used to get a rough estimate of the average Uber price in each state.
So, there you go. Washington charges the highest Uber fees anywhere in the USA. NetCredit stated that at around $53, this place has recorded the highest. That’s about $18 more expensive than the national median. The loan platform also added that this was hugely driven by the cost of hailing an Uber in Seattle, which is a hot tourist destination for both locals and tourists from abroad.
Ridesharing media have also reported that Cheyenne in Wyoming comes in at the second place.
"The wider study also found that Uber riders in Cheyenne spend a larger share of their paycheck, with a half-hour ride amounting to 224% of the local median hourly wage,” the media told the Ridesharing Forum team.
Which places are also on the list?
Of course, NetCredit is transparent enough to reveal which cities are in the third place and so on.
On the list of the top 10 most expensive cities for an Uber ride in the United States from the most expensive to the least are: Seattle, Cheyenne, Reno, New York, San Diego, Baton Rouge, Newark, Anchorage, San Jose, and Portland.
Suppose you’re wondering, which place charges the cheapest Uber in the United States? Drum roll, please. It’s Indiana, NetCredit also certifies. No, it’s not a runner-up.
The cities that charge the least Uber fees are: Indianapolis, Fort Worth, Tucson, Mesa, Omaha, Miami, Oklahoma City, Raleigh, Houston, and Memphis.
Interestingly… this list by NetCredit is very distinct from what Business Insider has shared also recently. According to the publication, the most expensive places in the United States for Uber rides are, in descending order: New York City, Nashville, Denver, Seattle, Baltimore, Portland, Austin, Las Vegas, Washington, D.C., and Boston.
