This Ramadan 2025, big changes will come to the food delivery industry. For one, Uber Eats is now helping Muslim customers find late-night and early-morning meals by featuring independent restaurants that are open at these hours. The initiative is known as the Open for Suhoor campaign.
The Open for Suhoor initiative of Uber Eats will aim to support smaller independent restaurants while making it easier for Muslim communities in the United Kingdom to access late-night and early-morning food during Ramadan.
However, Uber Eats and their restaurant partners have done this in the past. Thousands of partner restaurants extend their hours to cater to customers observing Ramadan, but this year’s Open for Suhoor campaign will shine a light on restaurants to open for business on the Uber Eats app so customers looking for meals can be able to get them in no time.
Uber Eats is even adding features to make it even easier for customers to find Suhoor options. The app has introduced Suhoor badges for participating restaurants, wherein chosen restaurant partners can showcase the badge on their storefront signage, just like Tripadvisor badges.
Meanwhile, consumers can still take advantage of special deals and promos throughout Ramadan.
Matthew Price, the general manager of Uber Eats in the United Kingdom, Northern Europe, and Ireland, stated, “The Open for Suhoor campaign is about more than just food, it’s about supporting communities and celebrating the incredible restaurants and couriers that make Ramadan special. We’re proud to continue this initiative and help ensure everyone observing Ramadan has access to the meals they need."
With 1,800 restaurants signed up on Uber Eats adjusting their hours throughout Ramadan to accommodate those fasting, it is likewise important to note how the Open for Suhoor campaign was developed off the back of research with the Muslim communities in the United Kingdom, which revealed that 93 percent believe brands and companies must do more to raise Ramadan awareness.
In lieu of those, Uber Eats is also relaunching its Sundown Spots initiative, which offers free takeaway iftar meals to couriers in towns and cities with the highest number of Muslim people. This campaign was first launched in 2023 by Chef Big Zuu, a BAFTA-winning chef. This initiative has been refined to better suit the needs of couriers, ensuring they get access to delicious and nourishing meals while working during Ramadan.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, a holy month observed by Muslims worldwide as a time of fasting, prayer, reflection, and increased worship, believed to be the month the Quran was first revealed to the prophet Muhammad. It is celebrated until this March 31st.
