What’s going on! For those of you who don’t know, there’s an on-ongoing protesting involving women’s soccer team Portland Thorns.
In these protests, demonstrations, and confrontations which happened at Providence Park during a Portland Thorns FC match versus the North Carolina Courage, around 20 activists, a podcast show host, and others associated with the Save Women’s Sports movement protested against gender equality, advocating that sports should be split by biological sex. It’s a chaos, it’s a pandemonium. They are wearing shirts from XX-YY Athletics, which connotes to chromosomes in science.
So, Lyft drivers won’t agree to give those involved in the protests a ride.
The demonstration also drew verbal and physical backlash from the rest of the audiences, prompting the venue’s security to pull out the protesters rejecting what they see around.
Even if these women were able to book a ride, the Lyft driver would discriminate, asking these people, “Are you the ladies from the news?” So, they got booted out.
The driver insisted, saying, “It’s my own private car, and I can cancel any ride I want to, and you don’t belong in my car.”
The driver has got a point, though.
However, it is interesting to note that one of those girls, Julie Lane, resisted. He told people and ridesharing media that she had done nothing wrong, and it was merely a driver ejecting them for their political stance and fashion preferences.
She also added she felt “genuinely unsafe,” and feels that it was a dark moment for Portland.
The driver then called the police so the ladies can get arrested for trespassing in his car, tagging them “anti-trans agitators.”
Lane received the police call, nonetheless, saying, “Please go ahead, and get the cops here. I’d love to talk to them about this.”
Lyft is not allowing this to pass through without comment, so they issued their official statement.
The ridesharing app told Ridesharingforum.com, “Everyone deserves to safety and respect on the Lyft platform, and discrimination of any kind has no place in our community. Our Safety team was in contact with both the rider and the driver involved, and we are continuing to review the incident.”
What do you think? Who’s in the wrong? Lyft is a ridesharing that makes it way easier for you to book rides to your destination. Launch the app, order a ride, track your driver, hop-on the car, get to your destination, and settle the payment. That easy. Okay, ‘til then!
