Postmates Pledges $3 Million To Help In The Recovery Of The Devastating LA Wildfire

The Los Angeles wildfire, ravaging the area since last week, has left more than 28 deaths, over 22 injured, and more than 31 people missing. Over 12,000 structures were destroyed across roughly over 16,000 hectares of burned area. This is why companies like Postmates are pledging monetary help for the victims of the incident. Here’s the scoop.

$3 million for the victims of the wildfire

In a recent Instagram post, Postmates, a food delivery service owned by Uber, said it is pledging $3 million to help victims of the Los Angeles wildfire recover.

“LA, we’re with you,” Postmates’ Instagram post stated. “We’re pledging $3 million to help you recover. We want to help Southern California residents, first responders, and communities get the resources they need to battle these wildfires, recover, and rebuild.”

In addition to this $3 million relief fund, Postmates and Uber also pledged $1 million to the World Central Kitchen and $2 million to local community organizations that serve Angelenos with free rides, meals, groceries, essentials, and freight transportation.

Additionally, the two platforms are also donating $1 for every ride booked or delivery order placed in Los Angeles County. They are partnered with restaurants and community groups throughout Los Angeles for the free rides and more to help the area recover for the long term.

“We’re currently working with partners like the East LA Women’s Center, California Fire Foundation, and COOP LA, with more to come,” Uber said in their official press release.

Netizens are not liking this move

However, social media netizens do not like this move, despite its generosity. Most of the comments in the particular Instagram post were negative.

“How about you just donate instead of pledging off the backs of Angelenos?” @jrdnnalexandra pointed out.

Meanwhile, @schzo_wmn_avoider shared a sarcastic post.

“Wow, how generous (this is sarcasm),” the netizen said.

Interestingly, most of the comments on the post are not to congratulate Postmates and Uber but something unrelated. They are complaining about the platforms’ bad service generally!

How Postmates works

Download the Postmates app to order delivery or pick up your cravings from over 600,000 restaurants across several cities in the United States, as well as retailers, grocers, and more.

So here’s how Postmates works. First, you order items via the official Postmates app or even from the website. Then, Postmates will use its system and software to identify the best delivery route. Lastly, the platform’s couriers, usually restaurants or retailers, use their own vehicles to deliver the items, just like Amazon Flex.

Its features include ordering anything from anywhere in your city using the app, having Postmates deliver the food to you within just an hour, order tracking, flat rate, and being open 24/7.

Their business model has attracted several investors and helped the company grow its customer base. It was founded in 2011 and acquired by Uber in 2020.

Apple, McDonald’s, Chipotle, Starbucks, Walgreens, and several other renowned firms have partnered with Postmates.
