A babysitter was reprimanded by their master, the mother, when the former briefly stepped outside to get a DoorDash order.
Babysitter hasn’t eaten?
In a Reddit post, it is indicated that the mom discovered that someone had approached their doorstep when the Ring doorbell camera sounded.
The visitor was a food delivery driver the babysitter summoned, saying they hadn’t eaten lunch and were developing a headache. The mother wasn’t providing food for the babysitter.
“The mom told me she was uncomfortable that someone came to the door and that I ‘left the kids alone’,” the Reddit user wrote.
The Reddit post also included screenshots of the text exchange with the mother, showing an abrupt shift in tone when the mother found out what the babysitter had done.
“Okay, we’ll talk when we get home, but I’m really concerned that you would do that without asking first. I would never be okay with a stranger coming to the door while my kids are sleeping. I really wished you had asked me before doing that,” the mother wrote in the SMS exchange.
The mother further instructed and requested that the babysitter double-check that both the storm door and the door chain were locked, saying that she needed to “fully trust who’s here.”
Apologies
The babysitter had apologized, saying they had waited until the delivery person left before stepping outside and had locked everything behind her.
However, the babysitter fought back, saying they had to also babysit other families where ordering food was never an issue.
But, as you’d read through the Reddit post, the parents remained firm, responding their concern wasn’t the babysitter being hungry, but about someone coming to the door without their knowledge, and the babysitter bypassing their master.
Fired
When the mother returned, she was so angry she did not just fire the babysitter, but also told them they couldn’t be trusted anymore.
As of this time of writing, there are already over 36,000 upvotes and over 6,000 comments.
People are siding with the babysitter that ordering food since you never took lunch for the day is not an issue.
“People are crazy like if you’re THAT concerned about your kids maybe you should take care of your own kids: sorry you lost clients that sucks,” a user wrote.
Another user stated the mother is a “hypocrite” to complain about how food deliveries are done.
“I think the fact that she hired a stranger off Facebook to watch them and left them alone with her speaks volumes and she’s a hypocrite to complain about food delivery in the way it was done here,” they wrote.
Parenting consultant Jo Hayes told Ridesharing Forum that the babysitter’s starvation may place the children at bigger risk than opening the door to retrieve her food.
“If they haven’t eaten since lunchtime, their cognitive functions and general physical energy would be diminished, meaning they’re in a less-than-ideal position to deal with any babysitting emergencies, should they arise,” Hayes stated.
