Only With Uber: Ambulance Driver In Ohio Abandons Patient, Gets An Uber Going Home

You have heard of funny stories involving Uber passengers, such as what Ridesharingforum.com recently reported, involving a woman who literally jumped out of the car after immediately knowing that she’s on a fake Uber ride.

Well, this time, the story involves an Uber driver, giving spotlight on a driver, instead of the passenger. An ambulance driver in Ohio decided to abandon his work, serving an ailing patient, and instead orders an Uber home. It’s much worse than a child having a tantrums in the classroom on the first day of school, wanting to go home! Here’s the scoop.

Bye, bye, patient!

In Ohio, one of the best states for healthcare in USA, an ambulance driver decided to abandon their patient that the ambulance was rushing to the hospital.

The reason: he got lost along the way. Whether that’s a double-meaning or not, what’s your verdict on this act?

The incident happened in Cleveland the previous days or week when the patient was being brought to Cleveland Clinic, suffering from chest pain.

According to ridesharing media, the ambulance driver got lost, and perhaps fearing that he might be accessory to the loss of the life of the patient, he simply called the day, stated he was done driving, and booked an Uber.

The ambulance driver was reportedly working for a private ambulance company, or a third-party ambulance company for the Cleveland Emergency Medical Services.

What’s going on!

The Cleveland Association of Rescue Employees (CARE) hotline stated that once the ambulance driver had abandoned the patient, a unit at the hospital responded and administered help for the abandoned patient. The patient was successfully taken to the hospital, fortunately.

“We want to clarify it was NOT a Cleveland EMS ambulance, but rather a provider working on a private ambulance,” CARE said in a statement. “Once that provider left, Cleveland EMS responded to the scene, administered care, and transported the patient to the hospital.”

A representative for the third-party ambulance service told RSF that upon being informed of the situation, immediate steps were implemented to address the issue, and ensure that the patient won’t be deprived of the healthcare services they need.

It added: “We are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding this incident and will take appropriate action based on the findings of that review. As this involves personnel and patient-related matters, we are unable to comment further.”

How about you? If you were the ambulance driver, what would you do if you suddenly got lost along the way? Surely, this driver needs more confidence! Create your account here on the RSF website to share your thoughts, or comment your violent reactions!
