Ola Electric Rolls Out Historic Shakti Battery Storage System From Its Tamil Nadu Plant

Ola Electric, the electric car division of the Ola India transportation company, has made history Monday by launching its first-ever battery energy storage system coming straight from its manufacturing plant. Here’s the story.

Historic

Ola India started the week right by launching the Shakti battery storage system from its productive manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu.

This battery storage system marks Ola India’s entry into the residential battery energy storage system or BESS market of the South Asian country, bringing the company beyond just the automotive domain.

This rollout represents a significant and fundamental shift into how the locals, the Indians, will access, control, and consume energy as a portable, on-demand resources crafted and designed for modern households, farms, and businesses in India.

Ola Electric told Ridesharing Forum, “The roll-out of Shakti from our Gigafactory is a defining moment in our mission to build the future of energy in India. With Ola Shakti, we have reimagined how India will store and consume energy. It is powered by our indigenous 4680 Bharat Cell.”

More into the storage

Unlike the usual or the conventional lead-acid inverters or diesel generators, the Shakti battery storage system operates across a wide input voltage range of 200V to 240V, protecting appliances from voltage fluctuations.

It is also spill-protected with IP67-rated batteries that are tested for dust, water, and monsoon conditions.

With the rollout of robotaxis and electric cars for ridesharing today, this battery proves to be a valuable resource.

Ola Shakti is available in four configurations, namely 1kW/1.5kWh, 1kW/3kWh, 3kW/5.2kWh, and 6kW/9.1kWh.

It is capable of powering up air conditioners, refrigerators, induction cookers, farm pumps, and communication equipment, with charging times as fast as two hours and a backup capacity of up to 1.5 hours on full load.

Interested buyers may reserve the battery for future purchase on the official Ola Electric website. The price is indicated there. Tamil Nadu is located in South India.
