In New York City, you can find all kinds of scenarios in ridesharing. You’d find drivers who share free candies and treats with passengers, only to the latter’s doubts. Then, you’d find passengers… pepper-spraying Uber drivers?! That’s harsh.
So harsh that the person who pepper-sprayed the driver is now facing charges and shall be imprisoned – if she did not win most of her cases.
Wait, she won most of her cases? You are reading that right. While she pleaded guilty, she is only guilty of the lesser charges. That’s unfair.
In this sensitive video, you can see how the New Yorker, a woman named Jennifer Guilbeault, pepper-sprayed her Muslim driver.
The incident happened during the summer last year in Manhattan. She was charged and threatened to be in prison, but managed to strike a deal not to.
While she has pleaded guilty, she has only done so to the lesser charge of one felony court of aggravated harassment in the second degree in Manhattan Supreme Court earlier this week. Initially, she would have faced up to 15 years in prison for the crime she committed.
According to the Muslim driver, Shohel Mahmud, Guilbeault attacked him for his skin color, but he was kind enough not to push the charges fully since he is a faithful person who believes in forgiveness, he told the media.
“She’s almost my kid’s age,” shared Mahmud, who is a father of three from Elmhurst, Queens. “After all, I believe in the Judgment Day. I have to stand in front of my God, that’s the reason why I forgive her. If I forgive her, God will forgive me.”
The way the incident happened is also odd. The suspect, a native of Northbridge in Massachusetts, was with her friend in the backseat of the Muslim driver’s car that picked them up nearby East 66th Street and Lexington Avenue when she suddenly lurched forward and sprayed the pepper substance in the driver’s eyes, the documents stated.
Lawyers stated the woman started ambushing the driver when he started his player in Arabic while approaching the red light. She was yelling, “Get him out!”
Her friend tried to calm her down, then asked her, “What did you do that?”
She answered, “He’s brown.”
Ridesharing media implied that she might be suffering from a psychological condition because of how she has undergone therapy and anti-bias programming since the incident last summer. She has also expressed her guilt over the incident.
According to the media, she might even be able to plead guilty to some of the other charges.
To attack an Uber driver on the basis of skin color is not only immature but also pointless. One of the weirdest ridesharing stories that ever came out. What do you think about this? Share your thoughts by signing up for your account here now.
