Maybe you can remember the DoorDash driver who slipped their pedals, reaching Chicago O’Hare International Airport, obviously on their way to delivering a foodie’s order.
Because how can a pilot, perhaps a flight attendant, think of ordering from DoorDash when they can walk minutes away to a restaurant inside the airport, or walk to a more affordable food stall just by the airport? Sounds like a feast, right?
Well, this person, who ordered their food via DoorDash in what Chicago locals regarded as a cutting-edge airport in the city, caused the driver to seemingly feel dizzy, losing their way at the airport’s tarmac.
Cut back to the video obtained by several media outlets, which shows a red Hyundai Elantra pulling up beside a United Airlines plane packed at the first terminal of the Chicago airport on May 17th. Just insane, is it not?
What confuses this team is precisely why the DoorDash driver mistakenly thought the way to the “doorstep” of the person who ordered is at the tarmac. Weren’t they able to pin the location on the app?
In the report seen by the media, the DoorDash delivery guy told the police he entered the airport’s restricted area via the gate at the southeastern section of the airport, following his map app, coordinating to deliver the food. It was a smart move, indeed, but confusing.
The Chicago Department of Aviation told the media, “There were no operational disruptions or safety incidents reported, and the area was promptly swept by [the Chicago Police Department] and Aviation Security personnel [out of courtesy for] caution.”
What’s worse, and even very frustrating, is that the driver was issued a criminal citation. However, the security guard who reprimanded the driver had already been fired by the airport management, with their airport security credentials revoked.
Safety is one of the things that the airport staff are putting on the table as to why they lodged a complaint against the DoorDash driver, for what if a plane pulls up on their way? The catastrophe, for sure.
Another thing that has caused the conflict between the airport and the driver, as well as the issue, is that there is a mix-up or a shake-up between the customer who ordered their food, the app, and the driver.
“I think this is hilarious… that the airline food is so bad that people order Door Dash to the plane before takeoff. Would they rather they brought sack lunches?” a netizen commented on the news.
Meanwhile, over on social media, such as on Facebook, things are a bit quiet. Usually, the comments section of stories like this would be bombarded with insights, apart from this netizen Steve Seitz who wrote, “Great AOA security O’Hare.”
DoorDash is the go-to platform globally that lets you order your food cravings, as well as groceries, so you can get those in almost at a very instant, considering you don’t order via drones.
