If you are a ridesharing and food delivery ride driver, you’ve got to behave right or you’ll go viral. A TikToker, for whatever reason, acquired a voicemail sent by a “rude” Postmates driver to a customer, asking the latter to cancel their order with curses, because the driver was in a very inconvenient situation.
The TikToker, who goes by the handle @briana_no_elle, courageously posted the voicemail with her face on the post, captioning the post, “before this app goes I wanted to share my favorite food delivery interaction I’ve ever had. I’m still srry steve”
Maybe @briana_no_elle was the customer? The media wasn’t very clear.
Nonetheless, in the viral voicemail, the driver demanded that the customer cancel their order immediately because the former was having difficulties parking at a mall, from where he would probably pick up the order.
The driver could be heard expressing their frustration in a highly profane manner, “unprofessional,” the media pointed out.
They were heard saying, “This is Steve, your Postmates carrier. You need to cancel your order; there’s no parking at the mall. What the hell you [curses] thinking? You’re ordering something from a [curses] mall. Cancel the son of a [curses] I can’t park here.”
The post had garnered around 92,000 favorites, but the TikToker seemingly chose to disable the comments section.
But, the media were able to find a way to get the people’s sentiments.
It’s quite weird for somebody, like the driver, who is getting paid for their services, would be the one to get rude in front of the customer, who is the one paying.
However, people are saying the driver must be understood, especially that there are times when delivering gets so busy, especially in high-traffic areas like shopping malls.
Furthermore, others blamed the incident on the gig economy and the frustrations of working under tight, usually unrealistic expectations. Take parking at a crowded mall, for instance. Should the driver fail to deliver the item on time, the customer may give them a bad rating, which could significantly affect the way he receives orders. Plus, there’s also the instance of low pay.
More people sided with the driver, saying that their manner could be due to their exhaustion and stress.
“It’s easy to understand why a driver might snap under pressure in a difficult situation,” they stated.
Meanwhile, others are playing devil’s advocate further by saying the customer may not have been aware of those challenges in getting their order to their doorstep as hassle-free as possible.
Sometimes, the customers just need be a little bit more empathetic.
