NBA Partners With DoorDash + 2,000-Word Emails From App’s Workers? Why Not!

Aside from seeing DoorDash ads while you watch an NBA game on TV, or a livestream of a match on YouTube or Facebook, the app has officially entered into a campaign with the basketball brand through Gary Payton II. Plus, a word from the DoorDash CEO, Tony Xu.

‘Gary on the Street’

It’s beautiful. When you head over online, you might see the special feature of NBA in partnership with DoorDash. It stars Golden State Warriors guard Gary Payton II. It’s got the text, “Presented by DoorDash.” So, it’s certainly official.

Regarded as a key defensive specialist and high-energy player, Payton II played a crucial role in the Warriors’ championship during the NBA 2022 season. He is the son of NBA Hall of Famer Gary Payton, hence the name.

The campaign is titled “Gary on the Street: Gary Payton II and DoorDash Hit the Streets to Test Dub Nation.” It’s a long title, but who cares? Payton II might be releasing these videos regularly, but this time, it’s being done with DoorDash.

In the video, the Golden State Warriors guard has a mission: to test the Dub Nation how well they know the team. Interestingly, Payton II is also carrying the iconic shaking-head figurine of himself as he talked to the fans.

For instance, he asked a lady, “What their favorite celebration?”

“For the Warriors?” the girl clarified.

Until she answered how she really enjoys watching the splash-feathers play, something like that.

“That’s a nice celebration for sure,” she said.

“We can take that,” Payton II responded, and gave her a high-five.

Promising.

Xu can read 2,000-word emails from workers

It’s kinda funny because in the world of work, it seems that there is this point of no return. While workers are being told to work hard like slaves, their grievances, whenever they encounter issues, are difficult to reach the executives.

But take the CEO of DoorDash differently.

Xu recently starred on a podcast and said he doesn’t mind receiving 2,000-word-long emails from delivery workers. They encourage them to, so DoorDash can resolve their issues.

“I love the 2,000-word emails, especially from Dashers, who will give many use cases of why the logistics algorithm broke for them,” Xu stated on the podcast. Oh, fair enough!
