Back-to-school is either a make-it or a break-it moment for your kids. You know why? Back-to-school can be exciting as it’s another time of the year again when your kids will meet their friends and teachers, but they also dread this time since they’d be waking up sooo-early again.
Well, DoorDash is here to make these moments easy-to-digest.
These parents also have woes when their kids go back to school, including thinking of what food to include inside their lunchbox.
Delish correspondent Sean Abrams wrote in their column, College was more than a decade ago for me, but I remember the food-budget struggle well. Somehow, there was always money for a night at the bar or, in my case, another tattoo, yet actual meals occasionally became a financial puzzle. Takeout was inevitable, so saving a few bucks wherever possible mattered.
From DoorDash, it’s a back-to-school freebie.
From August 17th to October 12th, eligible college students not only in the United States, but also in Canada, who are not DoorDash DashPass subscribers yet can claim a full year of Student DashPass for $0. Yes, $0!
This, provided that students verify their enrollment through SheerID. No worries, since once approved, the membership is free for 12 months as long as they remain eligible.
What are the perks? Well, the biggest advantage of the zero-delivery-fees on eligible orders on DoorDash, alongside reduced service fees.
Plus, there are few extras flying in, such as the five-percent back in DoorDash credit on eligible pick-up orders and discounts on certain rides on Lyft. Yes, Lyft is involved. Terms and conditions apply, of course.
To get verified is pretty straightforward. These kids must provide their name, school date of birth, and student email address. If SheerID can’t confirm enrollment automatically, it may ask for something like a transcript, class schedule, or tuition receipt instead.
A few reminders: eventually, this Student DashPass will need to get renewed at $4.99 monthly, with tax, after the first year, unless you cancel. Then, once DoorDash can no longer verify that you’re an active student, it can switch to the standard $9.99-per-month plan.
Though this won’t guarantee your kids eat balanced meals, it’s enough to de-burden parents of preparing their kids’ meals in school.
DoorDash made it official, of course. Over on its Instagram account, DoorDash posted a screenshot of its post regarding this on social, saying, “COLLEGE STUDENTS GET 1 YEAR OF FREE DASHPASS. TELL A FRIEND. (emoji)”
They captioned the post as, “the freshman 15 is scared of us”
Netizens are going crazy about this announcement, saying in the comments section, things like, “Can you call me a big back pls DoorDash smm (emojis),” “Aww man I’m 40… I need to enroll in college I guess,” and “@doordash I have completed all of these orders and my platinum status still hasn’t arrived and with dealing with traffic and everything else it’s hard to be and I quote “early” and please reply please”
Well, except for the latter, as it sounds more of like a random complaint. Got a story to pitch? Open your account here on RSF to do so! Let’s go!
