Just like your other favorite ridesharing apps, Uber Hong Kong also has its taxi division, and that’s Uber Taxi HK.
Uber Taxi HK is Hong Kong’s Uber service that allows you to order and pay for traditional taxis, but via the Uber app. You know the woes of finding a taxi on the road without these apps, and Uber Taxi HK cuts all the unnecessary waiting time.
With this, you have a convenient way to hail a taxi. Plus, there’s affordable upfront pricing and 24/7 availability.
Uber Taxi HK is the daughter of HKTaxi, which is a ridesharing app in the city, which stopped its operations as it has been acquired by Uber.
In order for these platforms to stand ground, there must continuously create campaigns to keep their customers engaged and listening.
Thus, Uber Taxi HK has recently tapped martial arts actor Nick Cheung to be the face of its newest campaign. Here’s the scoop.
Sixty-year-old Nick Cheung – who, by the way, previously starred in a controversial iPhone ad in China several months ago – is also now the star of Uber Taxi HK.
The storyline: a stunning martial arts scene.
“Performing kung fu in over 30 degrees Celsius temperatures while belting out a classic song was impressive to watch. But it just goes to show, even the best kung fu master is no match for Uber Taxi when it comes to hailing a cab,” the advertisers noted.
This new campaign continues upon last year’s work, highlighting the Cantonese word “kung fu,” which means “martial arts” and ‘effort” to denote the challenges of hailing a taxi, compared to when you hail it via the Uber app.
In the action-packed ad, Cheung is seen competing with other passengers, working on some exaggerated kung fu-style battles for a taxi. The spot has triumphantly portrayed him as a street-hailing champ. He’s the struggling guy, by the way, and he’s upstaged by, get this, someone who has secured a ride easily via Uber Taxi HK. Amazing.
Nicholas “Nick” Cheung Ka-fai is a Hong Konger, an actor, a singer, and a director. He first gained fame and recognition for his stellar performances in “The Conman” and “The Tricky Master.”
His other shows include “Thank You, Sir,” “It Takes Two to Mingle,” “The Lucky Family,” “Laser Drama - To Be a Gamble King,” and “Beast Stalker,” among countless others.
“Uber Taxi is about making travel seamless in a city where getting from point A to B isn’t always straightforward. Collaborating with Special and our local partners allowed us to build on the momentum from last year and bring even more entertainment and cultural resonance to this follow-up,” Uber’s marketing division emphasized in a statement.
