Every now and then, ridesharing apps would introduce new, helpful features. But then again, there are times when they scrap those features instead.
Such as Lyft’s feature that allows drivers to see how often their passengers tip. The update – this feature has officially been scrapped.
Here’s the behind-the-scenes. When drivers see how often passengers tip, this promotes transparency and trust. It helps these drivers get ready for fair compensations. This feature also helps reward generous passengers, then motivates them to tip more consistently, fostering mutual respect and a healthier tipping culture, especially in America, where tipping is a big deal.
However, drivers couldn’t do anything now, as this feature had already been put out of the way.
“While this experiment showed early signs of improving the marketplace and helping riders to get to where they need to go on time, we heard our customers and cancelled the experiment,” a Lyft spokesperson stated in an email late last week.
This decision wasn’t made on a whim. Reports suggest that this came after screenshots of the feature went viral on social. So, it was removed due to a controversy.
Is the community liking the decision? Of course not. Over on Reddit, a user wrote, “Guess Lyft is trying hard to lose business.”
Meanwhile, others vowed to stop using Lyft, whether they are drivers or passengers.
But here’s the good news. Lyft simultaneously started testing a feature that shows some drivers how frequently riders tip and whether they’re generally ready at pick-up. These details influence whether a driver accepts a ride or not. You’ll be able to read statements like, “Rider tipped on 89% of rides,” and “Rider is usually ready at pickup.”
Lyft stated that this updated feature was to help drivers make “more informed decisions on the rides they accept.”
