It was another triumphant Diwali this year, 2025. For those of you who don’t know, Diwali’s literal connotation is the Hindu festival of lights, held in the period of October to November. Particularly, it is associated with Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity. If there’s Chinese New Year, Diwali marks the start of the fiscal year in India, as well. Some Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists also celebrate Diwali.
This year, Diwali was held last October 20th. However, just like how the Christmas season and New Year span weeks, it’s the season of Diwali presently, folks! So, what better way to celebrate this than by exploring the places around? Here are the best things to do this Diwali season brought to you by Lyft.
At-home, with the family
Don’t go wasting your resources and energy traveling miles away from your home just to celebrate Diwali. Simply staying at-home, or visiting your friends and family nearby, the spirit of this light festival lives.
At home, you could start decorating your spaces with diyas or lamps, candles, and vibrantly-colored rangoli designs made with colored powder or flower petals.
You may also cook traditional Diwali dishes and sweets to share with your loved ones. Or, if you’re on the creative side, create Diwali garlands or other decorations together, involving your kids, too.
Outdoors, events
Several cities, not just in South Asia, but also in the USA, host public Diwali events, featuring live performances, food, and activities. To stay tuned to the happenings around you, check with local listings or call your cultural office.
If you’re not a fan of lively, energetic, and loud events, you may instead visit museums around that have special exhibitions about Diwali. Otherwise, simply enjoy traditional Bollywood and Punjabi music played in events nearby.
More activities
Other worthwhile activities during this Diwali season include learning, engaging with your kids, and hosting your office party. Remember, Diwali’s spirit is you. You are Diwali.
Happy Diwali, everybody! For more ridesharing news, share this story around online with your family and friends!
