Lyft Driver In The Sunshine State In Hot Water After Using AI-Generated ‘Evidence’ To Claim Damage Fees That Are Fake

Of course, this is different from coding things online to make unofficial appear official.

Did this Lyft driver in Florida learn and get ideas from these DiDi drivers in China that Ridesharing Forum reported yesterday?

The incident

Apparently, a Lyft driver in this Sunshine State has been caught-in-the-act using AI tools to dupe passengers into paying damage fees.

Reportedly, the incident happened last May 16th, Saturday, when a resident of Boca Raton, Bert Gor, received this notification and alert from his bank that his account was being compromised.

The media went on saying that the driver who is accessing his account submitted images to Lyft, claiming that his teenage daughters left a mess in the backseat, including spilled drinks, fries, and a large yellow stain across the seats.

So, Gor has been charged by Lyft a $75 damage fee.

Here’s the catch: no incident like this happened, since his daughters instead took a taxi ride.

Victims speak out

The Walt Disney Company’s ABC News picked up the story, showing the AI-generated image of the alleged spill in order for the Lyft driver to claim damages.

“I reach out to, you know, my girls, I have a 14- and 15-year-old that had been to the beach earlier, and so I’m like, ‘Hey, did you guys take Lyft today?’ And they’re like, yeah,” Gor told ridesharing media.

He also clarified that even if his daughters were to take that ride, even if they did take a different ride, never had food and drinks with them.

Instead, that time, they were reportedly in their towels from the beach.

They were in their towels coming back from the beach. And they said, well, you know, we verify everything with the drivers, and the driver, you know, sent us pictures. And I said, well, I asked them to send me the pictures,” Gor added.

His daughters confirmed it was AI after spotting the Gemini watermark at the bottom part of the image. This gave the dad the idea of how to report more.

“I’m like, ‘Oh my God, you’re right.’ So, I tell them, I said, ‘Hey, you know, matter of fact, these photos are AI generated,’” Gor stated.

Lyft acknowledged the driver was in the wrong, indicating, “We have reviewed the rider’s concerns, offered reimbursement, unpaired the rider and driver, and addressed the matter directly with the driver.”

The father wishes others won’t be scammed this way.

“If you’re not paying attention to this and you know, you’re getting charged $75, I mean, you know, it can really add up. So, you’ve really got to pay attention,” Gor pointed out.

The impact of AI

AI websites like Gemini are responsible for drawing the line between AI and not, which is why they have the watermark to indicate that.

Artificial intelligence holds immense power nowadays that even traveling abroad showing it’s real can be created, of course, with the help of disagreeing studio production houses. Of course, this is different from coding things online to make unofficial appear official.

The AI technology can be used for good, such as when marketing your business, but some individual are using AI against the goodness in this world. For more ridesharing news, keep it locked right here on Ridesharing Forum!
