Would you believe that nowadays, children and teens, or teens, at the very least, don’t go for the conventional school bus rides, or carpool rides anymore to school, but it’s all modern since they book rides on Uber, and reach their school in the safest and most convenient way possible?
Since Uber launched accounts for teens, things have changed. Uber for Teens, as also previously featured here on Ridesharingforum.com, is a specialized service that lets parents and legal guardian set up supervised accounts for these teens aged 13 to 17 years old, so they can independently request rides and order meals on Uber.
“With a teen account, your teen will have the freedom to request their own rides and order their own meals, all under your supervision,” Uber told RSF.
Aaand, this is necessary, considering the several assaults, harassments, and more that passengers reported about their Uber drivers. Let’s face the truth.
However, this time, Uber has rolled out a brand-new feature under Uber for Teens, and that’s allowing parents to livestream their teen’s Uber ride from the moment they leave the house, embark on the car, travel, and reach their school.
Now, here’s the thing. Being a protective parent isn’t wrong, but imagine a mom who has other household duties like cooking, cleaning the house, and so much more, would sit on the couch, open her tablet, and watch for what? Like an hour, her teen’s journey to school.
The other side is saying that this is completely okay, since a mom can cook a meal while leaving her gadget on at the top of the kitchen counter, perhaps. What do you think?
Ashu Manohar, the direct of Uber’s product management, spoke with morning shows in the USA, saying, "Parents consistently tell us they want to feel connected and informed when their teens are on the go. It’s another way we’re helping parents feel confident while giving teens the independence to get where they need to be.”
Here’s how it works. Parents can check-in and see how their teen’s rides are going on-demand by accessing a live video stream of their ride.
With the Uber driver’s front-facing cameraphone, parents can see their teen in the car in real-time.
First, the teen’s trip commences, then their linked guardian gets a push notification that live video is now available. Third, they tap on a button to start livestreaming, but interestingly enough, the teen would know if their parents are watching, adding another layer of safety to the ride.
When the trip is complete, the livestream ends. This is now available in nine active markets in the United States.
“School. Practice. A friend’s house. Teens have places to be, and parents want to stay plugged in along the way,” Uber told the RSF team. “That’s why we designed Uber teen accounts: a parent-linked experience to help teens get where they’re going with more independence and always-on safety features, while giving parents a way to stay connected every step of the way.”
