Learn About DoorDash’s Systematic Way Helping Small Businesses Rebuild Following Summertime Hurricane, Erin

Just as inarguably most of the United States was enjoying the summer season – Hurricane Erin was relatively strong, though did not make waves of trends online – this hurricane affected Cape Verde, Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, Lucayan Archipelago, North Carolina, Virginia, Massachusetts, Bermuda, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland, according to online encyclopedia sites.

It developed from a tropical wave last August 11th before fading a few days after. Actually, the Ridesharing Forum team honestly just heard about this storm when DoorDash decided to help the affected businesses rebuild.

Compared to other hurricanes that struck the United States, such as Hurricane Katrina – producing thousands of deaths – Hurricane Erin, the storm that attempted to interfere summer in the United States and the surrounding areas, only made 12 fatalities, the authorities recorded.

Now, small businesses in the Jersey Shore area that suffered damages from Erin are eligible for a grant from DoorDash, in order to help them get back on track. Those businesses were located in the communities in the Shore, specifically in low-lying bayfront areas and places with extensive beach damage, including Beach Haven, Atlantic City, Margate, Ocean City, and Sea Isle City.

How to apply for the grants

Ridesharing media have shared the way on how to apply for the grants, but as of press time, the link to the application form has not yet been updated.

Nonetheless, they guarantee that applications are granted on a rolling basis with the upcoming deadline to apply being September 29th.

The grants, eligibilities

Small businesses that are eligible for the grants can apply for them, amounting to as much as $15,000. The minimum is $5,000.

Also, these grants are awarded four times yearly based on need and the extent of damage incurred to help cover costs of rent, inventory, utilities, and so much more.

The eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • Minimum of one business branch, but no more than three, that have been opened for at least six months prior to the disaster
  • Fewer then 50 employees
  • Under $3 million in revenue for each location
  • And, the federal or state-declared disaster must have happened within the last year

“At DoorDash, our mission is to empower local economies, and we know that when disaster hits, small businesses of all kinds like those on the Jersey Shore face all types of challenges as they recover, and that really does have, sort of a ripple effect on entire communities,” stated the social impact manager of DoorDash, Maggie Polachek.
