Ever experienced delays in receiving your orders from online shopping platforms like Lazada, Shopee, and Amazon, three of the biggest key players in the international eCommerce landscape, because you spend so much time finding the item you love on the apps?
Well, you are not alone. And you are not to blame, rather, the app for being slow and difficult to use. Lazada is seeking to bridge that gap, especially now that it has officially unveiled a comprehensive report on how it will adopt artificial intelligence or AI amongst online sellers in the platform’s key markets.
Kantar was tapped to develop the report, surveying over a thousand sellers across Lazada’s markets in Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia. The report highlights the potential and challenges that AI can bring to business operations in the Southeast Asian region.
Thailand ranks first
The study’s findings revealed that online sellers in this region are familiar with AI technology, with Thailand ranking first. However, the actual usage of AI is way less than the familiarity. That’s all about AI adoption, and to give you a perspective, so you can imagine, Thailand ranks third on this, with the leaders being Indonesia and Vietnam. AI familiarity is distinct from AI adoption.
Lazada Group’s chief executive officer, James Dong, has emphasized the significance of understanding the potential of AI to enhance digital business efficiency, operations, and customer experience.
"While most sellers recognize the transformative power of AI, many are just beginning to grasp the technology before implementing it fully,” Dong spoke with the media.
AI adoption
More work needs to be done on AI adoption than on AI familiarity because users may be familiar with AI, but are not really using it.
The report has categorized sellers into three basic groups to launch the action plan for this. The three groups are AI Aspirants, AI Adepts, and AI Agnostics. AI Adepts are those who adopt AI at most points in their lives.
The report also determined five key areas where AI is being implemented in the stadium of eCommerce. They are operations and logistics management, product management, marketing and advertising, customer services, and human resource management. The highest adoption rates are in logistics and operational management. Among the least adopted areas for AI is seen in the area of marketing and product management.
Appeals
Even though Thailand ranks first in AI familiarity and third in AI adoption, several Thai sellers express concerns about costs. They believe that the expenses are too much, despite the acknowledgement that AI leads to long-term cost savings.
Meanwhile, Lazada is set to introduce new AI-driven features designed to streamline operations and enhance product listings. With this, consumers can find products that match their interests, so deliveries can run smoothly than ever.
Founded in mainland China, Lazada is an eCommerce platform that serves the Southeast Asian market. It is the biggest competitor of Shopee, another platform that has a presence in South America, too.
