Lavish Resort Wedding’s Funding Trail Shows It’s From… Rapido?

There’s nothing wrong about hosting a lavish wedding, but when authorities trace that it came from dirty money from a ridesharing app, that’s when things will go berserk. Here’s the scoop.

Money trail pointing towards Rapido

Authorities are pointing the expenses of the wedding to a Rapido bike driver’s bank account. The wedding being questioned is a destination wedding at a posh Udaipur resort named Taj Aravalli Resort.

The wedding is associated with a Gujarat youth political figure Aditya Zula, which took place in November 2024. Was it from the dealings of the government with local ridesharing apps so they can continue operating?

The authorities found this out in serendipity. During its investigation into the “illegal practices” of a betting platform on racket, they found that the Rapido driver’s account received deposits worth a whopping over $36 million between August 2024 and April 2025. Also, over $110,000 from this account was allegedly spent on the wedding. The authorities are clarifying that there is no connection between the bride and the groom, and the Rapido driver.

Functioned as mule

Officials are saying that the account functioned as a mule, or something that received deposits from various unidentified sources, sending the money out to several other suspicious accounts. One of those trails takes you to a bank account linked with illegal betting. Authorities are currently still tracking the additional origins and destinations of these transactions.

“Rapido is providing the required information to the Enforcement Directorate. The individual mentioned is one of the 2 crore registered captains associated with us for bike taxi services. As with many workers in the gig economy, he may be associated with multiple platforms. Rapido has no role or involvement in the matter under investigation. The alleged actions are personal to the individual. Rapido does not endorse or tolerate any such behaviour and remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of transparency, integrity, and compliance with the law,” a Rapido spokesperson stated.

In other words, Rapido is denying the allegations.

Allowances + warning to the public

Authorities are leaving room for the benefit of the doubt. They believe that a third-party account may have been an attempt to hide the actual source of the money and avoid investigation. But, the amount of the money plundered and use is still a matter of question.

This is why authorities are warning the public against carelessly spending their money, since they wouldn’t know where they might go.

They are telling the public not to share details about your financial accounts, not to sign financial documents from unknown persons, report unusual transactions in your account, be cautious of people offering money then using your identify, and verify mobile numbers issued in your name. Plus, they also advise on deactivating numbers you do not use.

Rapido is a ridesharing service, which primarily operates as a bike taxi aggregator. Its catalog also includes auto-rickshaw and taxi-hailing services. For more of the latest ridesharing news, keep browsing Ridesharing Forum.
