Uber Freight, the freight division of the world’s number one ridesharing app, has rolled out today not just a traditional partnership with last-mile delivery platform Better Trucks, but also an expanded commercial partnership. Here’s the scoop.
Better Trucks, a leading last-mile delivery platform that manages the delivery of tens of millions of packages a year for leading retail and eCommerce brands – your preferred eCommerce store might be using this platform – has announced its newest collaboration with no other than Uber.
Under this collaboration, Uber Freight will leverage the technology, operational capabilities, and scaled delivery network of Better Truck to seek help expanding the ridesharing app’s last-mile capabilities as well.
Last-mile delivery is the very last stage of the supply chain, where a package is transported from a transportation hub to the destination, the customer’s home or business. This process is referred to as the last leg of the journey, and is often the most complex and expensive part of shipping.
For instance, you bought a Halloween costume from a popular store in your country. After going through the logistics of sorting, the item you purchased will have to be moved from the transportation hub to your address. This is when companies like Better Trucks come into the scene.
With this tie-up, customers of Uber Freight may already extend deliveries from their store or fulfillment locations directly to their doorsteps. This means enhanced speed, efficiency, real-time reliability, and real-time visibility.
These are the features from Better Trucks that Uber Freight could enjoy:
- The connected technology system wherein Better Trucks’ open API architecture integrates with over 50 leading logistics and eCommerce platforms, enabling seamless data flow, as well as collaboration across the Uber Freight network.
- Better Trucks may also provide key capabilities to Uber Freight in terms of sortation technologies. Uber Freight would be able to establish and optimize services at their various sortation centers, which also speaks a lot to driving operational efficiency and expanding delivery coverage.
- Lastly, there’s address validation and geocoding. The partnership seeks to improve verification, standardization, and conversion of addresses into precise geographic coordinates to guarantee reliable deliveries and optimized routing.
This partnership also constitutes a strategic investment in Better Trucks, as Uber tops the company to accelerate the expansion of its freight division’s end-to-end logistics, offering a flexible and technology-driven solution that consolidates and optimizes the shipping needs of businesses, from first-mile to last-mile procurement and delivery. The partnership also covers Uber Eats and Uber Direct.
