A DoorDash executive was among those killed in the deadliest boating incident in California since 2019. The Ridesharing Forum site has more.
Capsizing in Lake Tahoe
Eight people were killed in a boating incident on Lake Tahoe, including 37-year-old Josh Pickles, a DoorDash executive. Pickles died with his parents, 73-year-old Terry Pickles and 71-year-old Paula Bozinovich from Redwood City, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Division confirmed the details.
DoorDash’s chief financial officer Ravi Inukonda told Ridesharing Forum how the entire team is “heartbroken” by this tragic incident that claimed the life of one of their dedicated workers.
“We are heartbroken by the tragic accident that took the life of our beloved colleague, Josh Pickles. Josh loved his team and was an inspiration to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him,” Inukonda said. “During his nearly seven years at DoorDash, he brought a contagious spirit that lifted those around him. The loss of Josh is immeasurable. We miss him deeply and will carry his memory with us always. Our thoughts and love are with his wife, his daughter, his family, and all who were close to him. We are working to support them through this incredibly difficult time.”
Pickles’ group, which consisted of 10 individuals, was on board a 27-foot Chris-Craft luxury powerboat. However, the boat chanced upon a storm. According to the vessel’s 911 calls, the boat capsized at around 5 p.m. on Saturday.
It’s not that people did not know a storm was coming, but while stormy weather was in the forecast, the actuality surprised people, with waves reaching up to 10 feet. This is among the reasons why you should check, double-check, and, if possible, triple-check weather forecasts, as they can annoyingly be inaccurate at times.
Two people did survive, but the media are still sourcing out information about their condition.
Dedicated team member
Pickles was the Global Head of Strategic Sourcing and Procurement in DoorDash’s Finance department. He had worked for DoorDash for almost seven years.
Prior to his stint at the food, grocery, and retail delivery platform, he was with Salesforce and Cisco Systems, two systems widely used by several companies across the globe.
His wife, Jordan, is breaking down. She told the media, “We are devastated by this tragedy. No words can express the pain and anguish we feel knowing their lives were lost during what was meant to be a joyful time on the lake. Our hearts go out to those who tragically lost their lives and the two survivors of this unexpected and deadly storm on Lake Tahoe."
