The love for pickleball
Pickleball isn’t an Olympic sport, nor a sport where you’ll invite your friends to play like how you did with tennis or basketball, but it’s very popular.
Played either indoors and outdoors, pickleball is considered a racquet or paddle sport wherein two or four players play with a smooth-faced racquet known as the paddle to hit a perforated, hollow plastic ball over a 34-inch high net until a side is not to return the ball or commits a rule infraction. It’s basically like tennis, table tennis, and badminton, except for the difference in the equipment used.
Pickleball statistics show it was the fastest-growing sport in America for 2024. Over 36 million people have played pickleball at least once that year. It’s not an Olympic sport, but look at that!
DoorDash’s pickleball event
So, DoorDash wanted to tap on this popularity to even showcase how popular the sport is. The online food ordering and delivery platform will turn a traditional sporting event to something unforgettable. Enough to help you along your hangover after Sunday’s Super Bowl.
“The Celebrity Pickleball Bash presented by DoorDash transforms traditional sports events by combining pickleball with pop culture, creating a spectacular viewing experience. It features star-studded matches, exclusive VIP meet-and-greet opportunities, and live entertainment - all within a festival-like atmosphere for pickleball enthusiasts and pop culture fans,” the event’s official website said. “This high-energy event celebrates pickleball by merging sport, entertainment, and community.”
During the event, teams of celebrities and professional pickleball players will be pit against each other in a lively evening of the ultimate “pickletainment” at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco. Like “Dancing with the Stars”!
PIVOT Agency, the organizer of the event, also said it will be a party-like atmosphere where local non-profit group, Positive Coaching Alliance, will strive to create a positive experience and sports environment for the attendees.

Aside from Mario Lopez, celebrities who you can watch at the vent include Northern California sports icons Terrell Owens, Brandi Chastain, Hunter Pence, Chris Mullin, Jessie James Decker, Eric Decker, Jalen Brunson, and even UFC fighter Urijah Faber.
The ridesharing media is covering Faber’s preparation for the event.
“There’s a ton of programs here locally that positive coaching alliance has touched,” Faber told reporters. “This is a great cause we are playing for on top of it being a fun event.”
