Isn’t Spared: Same Lawsuit Vs. Uber Eats Also Affecting DoorDash

You know, though quite unbelievable, that Uber Eats is currently facing a class action lawsuit over drip pricing, or a sales technique wherein a business advertises a lower price when the customer will pay higher fees once products are checked out.

Apparently, DoorDash is also affected. It isn’t spared.

Canada’s Competition Bureau also filed the lawsuit. What’s worse, it is being alleged that the company amassed as much as a whopping $1 billion in hidden fees from the drip pricing technique over a decade. Just whoa.

Can this be true?

The media reported that the Competition Bureau accused DoorDash Canada of the pricing technique, wherein the advertised prices that DoorDash launched exclude mandatory fees revealed only at checkout. Even your favorite airlines and hotels app don’t have these things.

The Bureau also stated that due to the drip pricing tricks, customers were unable to buy items at the promoted price because of fees, such as services, deliveries, expected ranges, small orders, and regulatory response fees.

This technique has provided DoorDash with around $1 billion in mandatory fees from customers who’ve bitten into the deal in over nearly a decade.

Aside from urging DoorDash to stop this deceptive pricing, the lawsuit will also seek penalties, as well as the misrepresentation of fees as taxes, and restitution for affected customers, of course.

DoorDash is refusing to bow down to the lawsuit. They are calling it “misguided and excessive,” denying they are hiding fees and misleading customers.

“Transparency with customers is a top priority at DoorDash. All fees on DoorDash, which support the high-quality operations of our platform, are clearly labeled and disclosed to consumers through the ordering process – including a final review before payment. To be crystal clear, DoorDash does not hide fees from consumers or mislead them in any way,” a DoorDash spokesperson told Ridesharing Forum.

Headquartered in San Francisco in California, DoorDash is among the world’s leading platforms for food ordering and deliveries.

Once they have the app, customers can order from their favorite restaurants, grocery stores, and convenience stores via the DoorDash app or website.

These Dashers, or the people bringing your orders, will have to pick them up first as they dash, or drive to your location. Customers can track their orders accurately.
