Here’s the news: Grubhub delivery robots are bidding goodbye from Colorado State University’s Braiden Dining Hall.
It’s funny, and interesting at the same time, since these delivery robots are really, really new. They are not the traditional deliveries of humans, but robots. Sadly, starting this semester, the removal of these Grubhub delivery robots are among the most hurtful changes that the university will face.
Sarah Oehler, the assistant director of communications in Colorado State University’s Division of Student Affairs and On & Off Campus Life, stated in an email to the RSF team, “Braiden Hall all-you-care-to-eat Dining Center was discontinued because it was the least-visited dining center on campus and accounted for only 13 percent of meal swipes.”
She explained also that these figures were from the total number of meal swipes spent last school year across every dining center, retail location, and market. The percentage for Braiden is bleeding at 13 percent. Is Grubhub delivery too expensive?
“Dining staff at Braiden were either retained on-site or transferred to other dining centers on campus,” Oehler further went on.

This brand-new all-day mini-market will open in Braiden Dining Hall this fall, alongside RAMwich, which will remain open for customers from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for lunch during weekdays.
For the management of these businesses, they are saying that it’s good riddance for Grubhub. Seriously?
“It’s actually been positive because now we’re fully staffed,” Steve Kelley, the senior production chef of Ram’s Horn, told Ridesharingforum.com “We’re able to open downstairs for all-you-can-eat during lunch… It’s kind of better because, like, once you serve 1,000 people, serving 1,200 people isn’t much different. So it is busier, especially during that first week when move-in is, like, crazy… but right now it’s really good. It’s starting to even out now. I’ve worked at Braiden and Ram’s Horn and The Foundry throughout my career, and there’s been a lot of changes in dining, but I think what we’re doing now is a good, positive change for the students because we have a lot more options at Ram’s Horn.”
It’s really like going back to the Stone Age of ordering food for the people in this university, so that’s how some students went pissed off by the decision of the school management.
“I’m kind of disappointed,” sophomore Russell Carlson chatted with an RSF correspondent. “It was positioned in a really convenient location. Everything else, I kind of have to cross campus from my classes to eat. But Braiden was kind of like, smack in the center there.”
Another third-year student who sidelines as a residential assistant in Braiden Hall, Adelle Hazelhurst, also expressed their dismay, saying, “Braiden, being a smaller dining hall, was really nice for a lot of people. That’s really sad that we’re not gonna have that anymore.”
Junior pupil who worked as a student supervisor in Braiden, Matthew Powley-Young, won’t only lose their job, but also the community, “I really loved my job. It was really sad leading up to those last few weeks, and the full-time staff, they all loved their jobs, too, because it was really quite a wonderful community there. I’m so frustrated about it. Braiden was good. We put out food that we were proud of, and we served a lot of people, like a ton of people, and our team worked really hard, and we did a good job… I don’t think it was a good thing to close Braiden.”
