Not that Ireland will have Lyft cars on the road. Here’s how it goes.
Lyft, through Freenow by Lyft, has acquired Dublin’s Lynk taxis, and Limerick’s Swift taxi service.
Lynk is Dublin’s fast and reliable taxi app. They consider themselves the number one taxi app in Dublin. This app-based taxi dispatch service connects riders with over 2,500 professional drivers. It also provides 24/7 personal, corporate, and healthcare transport.
Meanwhile, Swift, locally known as 313131 – not 90210 – is a Limerick-based dispatcher with clients in the pharmaceutical and health sectors across the city.
So, basically, this partnership erases the competition between those two. On the other hand, Limerick is another city in Ireland.
This is thrilling since Dublin and Limerick are among the most exciting destinations in Ireland, if not in the whole world.
Dublin features historic landmarks, lively cultural districts, museums, parks, and the scenic River Liffey, offering a vibrant blend of heritage and modern attractions. Meanwhile, Limerick showcases Medieval architecture, riverside walks, iconic castles, galleries, and charming streets, providing visitors with rich history, artistic experiences, and authentic Irish character throughout the city.
The general manager of Freenow by Lyft Ireland Danny O’Gorman shared with RSF that Limerick is among the first cities that Freenow launched in Ireland. Furthermore, its acquisition of Swift builds directly on that history.
O’Gorman noted, "At the same time, Lynk strengthens our position in business travel, an area we’re actively growing.”
For the CEO of Lynk, Noel Ebbs, this is an exciting fresh chapter for Lyft.
“Together, we’ll be able to continue the excellent service we’ve provided to clients and passengers, and make more trips available to drivers,” Ebbs told Ridesharing Forum.
Swift Taxis are also looking forward to its bright future with Lyft, which is based in the United States.
“Combining our local roots with Freenow by Lyft’s technology means we can keep Limerick moving, with even better taxi service for drivers, passengers, and business partners across the city,” the company stated.
Freenow by Lyft is a multi-mobility and taxi application that operates across over 150 cities in nine European countries. Acquired by Lyft, it allows passengers to book traditional taxis, private car hires, and various micro-mobility services, such as eScooters and carsharing all within a single mobile platform. It was acquired in July 2025.
