Indian Online Food Delivery Platform Zomato Rebrands Company Name As Eternal, People Are Not Happy

Have you ever heard the recent story about Zomato changing its name to Eternal? To set things straight, Zomato still remains “Zomato,” and this Indian food delivery platform is only changing the name of the parent company that runs Zomato.

From its former name, Zomato Limited, the new company name of the platform will now be Eternal. However, people think they made the wrong choice.

Zomato is probably one of those that has got a witty brand. It is an Indian restaurant aggregator and online food ordering platform founded by Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah in 2008. Aside from ordering food online, the platform also provides information, menus, and reviews of your favorite restaurants.

Though most of its international markets have exited recently, it is still operational across Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and the United Arab Emirates.

On Thursday, Zomato unveiled a brand-new logo and also announced the name change for its parent company.

Goyal shared a link to a letter on X explaining this decision. He also clarified and answered the questions users were posting.

“Guys, Eternal is just the parent company – the app remains Zomato,” Goyal wrote. “We thought of publicly renaming the company when something beyond Zomato became a significant driver of our future. Our board has approved this change today and I request our shareholders also to support this change.”

The company added that four significant businesses will be under the name Eternal: Zomato itself, the quick-commerce unit Blinkit, the live events business District, and Hyperpure, a kitchen supplies unit.

“What is this, Doom Eternal but for biryani deliveries? Are they promising immortality with every order, or just eternal wait times when you’re starving?” a user commented on the name change.

Another said Zomato should have just named the parent company “Tomato.”

One user commented, “Bhai, are you running a company or building a family tree!?” while the other joked, “Customers don’t care about the name, just make sure the food arrives on time – even if you call it ‘Eternal Hunger’!”

Meanwhile, while others won’t associate “Eternal” with wait times, some, considering the change, associate it with how long it takes for this platform to profit.

“Zomato’s new name (Eternal) is a great indicator of how much time it takes for a cloud kitchen to become profitable,” they said.

“Zomato turning into Eternal has given us eternal pain!” another pointed out.

In the letter to shareholders, Goyal also said the “Eternal” name intimidated him at first, scaring him to his “core.” However, he said the board approved the change, which will be reflected on the new official website URL and stock ticker.

“A company has multiple founding moments, and I hope this change is another one in our journey into the future,” Goyal stated.
