Lyft’s official newsroom has been very quiet lately, with the last post being last October. However, ridesharing media is abuzz and aflame, talking about Lyft, such as this recent news about this ridesharing app.
Lyft has a new advocacy, and that is to fight impaired driving.
According to Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, “Impaired driving happens when someone operates a vehicle while impaired by substances such as marijuana, illicit drugs, prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, alcohol.”
It’s not like a person is driving because he is disabled or something, but “impaired” in the sense that he or she is under the influence of a substance.
Impaired driving is one of the serious causes of accidents and deaths on the road. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recorded that every day, around 34 people in the USA die in drunk-driving crashes, which is one person every 42 minutes. In 2023, over 12,100 people died in alcohol-impaired driving traffic deaths.
Lyft is one with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is advocating against and fighting this, agreeing that these deaths are preventable.
That is why in Delaware, the Delaware Office of Highway Safety is proud to offer vouchers up to $20 not just from Lyft, but also from Uber, during designated times along this holiday season to discourage impaired driving incidents.
Officers say that the vouchers will be available this November 26th, 3 p.m. local time, until Thursday, November 27, 3 a.m., local time, it runs out quick so be sure to hurry to catch the deal.
You could claim the vouchers beginning November 26th at 8 .m. local time at www.mysoberrides.com. The number of the vouchers will just be limited.
But, come New Year’s Eve, more vouchers will be offered on the site, which would be available for your perusal from December 31st at 5 p.m., just as you are preparing the New Year’s meal, to January 1, 2026 at 3 p.m. Happy New Year, then.
“Our seasonal campaign has always been extremely important, and with recent air travel challenges expected to push more holiday travelers to the roadways, the stakes are even higher this year,” emphasized Sharon Bryson, the director of the Delaware Office of Highway Safety. “More vehicles on the road, bad weather, an increase in the number of parties and alcohol consumption, and even the general lighthearted spirit of the season all contribute to higher risk of crashes – and, sadly, fatalities. Our single mission is to keep the holidays happy for all Delawareans by providing the tools and resources that can prevent tragedy."
This marks the second year since Delaware’s Office of Highway Safety has offered exclusive vouchers to the locals in an effort and with the goal to prevent impaired driving. They’re saying they’re also launching their Safe Holiday Travels campaign, where street teams will grace events in every county in Delaware to engage attendees and promote safe driving.
