Around over $23 million settlement is awaiting some Grubhub drivers. Here’s the scoop.
$23 million settlement
It’s a historic win not for Grubhub, but for Grubhub delivery staff, as late this week, a federal judge granted approval of the around over $25 million settlement for approximately 60,000 Grubhub drivers in California after a decade of back and forth with the law left them wondering if they would win.
Joe Biden-appointee, United States district judge Jaqueline Scott Corley, issued her 20-page order about the settlement, an order that had been years in the making.
“Alright, now is my official approval of this, my oldest case, that has, of course, went through many iterations and changes in law,” Corley stated.
This settlement is the answer to the drivers’ woes and complaints with the help of legal counsels.
Corey also stated that the claims rate for the settlement was high, so this is a success for her as well.
“Kudos, to the claims administrator that the plaintiffs selected, I think they did an excellent job. Very few opt-outs and only one objection. So, I think that speaks to the quality of this settlement, and we did a lot of work to get it there," she added.
This settlement covers any individual who agreed to use the Grubhub platform as an independent contractor for delivery services, and accepted or completed at least one delivery in California anywhere between December 3rd, 2014, to March 13th, 2026.
