Grubhub isn’t just about treating its customers to great food. As a way to thank its drivers, the delivery app collaborated with them to direct $310,000 to 56 non-profit organizations in markets all across the United States.
The money has helped people land their dream jobs for their future, find their way out of homelessness, and be cured of deadly diseases like cancer. Here’s the scoop.
Directing $310,000 to over 50 non-profit organizations
To celebrate Grubhub’s 20th anniversary last year, the platform recently announced the launch of its new driver community grant program, spearheaded by the Grubhub Community Fund. The program seeks to help its top delivery partners support non-profit organizations that are doing good in the community.
“At Grubhub, we want to have a positive impact in the communities where we operate, while helping our drivers do the same,” Grubhub noted in its official January release.
Over 240 of their top delivery partners are part of this program. They are nominating a non-profit organization of their choice for a grant. Through this program, these delivery partners helped direct the money to the non-profit organizations.
Details of the funding
In alignment with the very own community impact focus areas of Grubhub, the organizations are offering donations in terms of food, work-related training, community-based programs, support for families, and more. The funds are:
- Helping fund the Commercial Culinary Training Program spanning nine-weeks, providing 200 hours of intensive and in-person instruction covering essential culinary skills, from food preparation to industry terminologies
- Being used to execute a workforce development component into the organization’s program, which can play a significant role in supporting individuals in recovery, such as enhancing essential job skills via workshops, funds for training materials, and more
- Helping people maintain stable housing, and assisting households that are soon to be evicted
- Being used to buy foods – fresh fruits, vegetables, proteins, and more – so families can access food outside traditional pantry hours, as well as supporting food delivery services for those who don’t have access to the pantries in-person
- Providing babysitting services for families dealing with people with cancer, helping them reach to their doctor appointments
Statements from beneficiaries
What the program’s beneficiaries are saying are touching. A certain Senthil I. said the program helped them get a job at a bank so they could pursue their dream career in finance.
“The Hope Foundation of Binghamton provides a place to stay and programs for men and women who are dealing with tough situations like homelessness, drug addiction, or domestic violence,” another beneficiary, Timothy E., said.
Tabitha A. shared about how the organization’s effects have helped people diagnosed with any type of cancer obtain the necessary resources, financial help during treatment, support after treatment, and anything in between.
