Global Digital Payments Company Checkout.com Journeys Across Europe With Freenow By Lyft

Lyft has a brand-new partnership, and it’s very exciting. Freenow by Lyft, which is owned and managed by Lyft, is currently in a deal with leading global digital payments company Checkout.com.

Together, they are on a journey across Europe to provide reliable and high-performing digital payments across every European market on the platform.

“Freenow by Lyft is a leader in the European taxi and mobility market, and we’re proud to partner with them as they continue to scale across Europe,” Antoine Nougué, the chief revenue officer of Checkout.com, told Ridesharing Forum. “As mobility becomes increasingly digital, payments serve as a critical backbone for delivering smooth, reliable passenger experiences. By strengthening the resilience of Freenow’s payment flows and supporting complex post-paid journey models, we’re helping power their growth in the rapidly evolving mobility ecosystem.”

Under this partnership, Freenow by Lyft gains deeper transaction insights from across its global network.

Checkout.com utilizes advanced evaluations, powered by AI, to help discern patterns in authorization behavior across digital payment journeys. Such insights enable Freenow by Lyft to optimize its performance and deliver a smoother payment experience for its customers. Meanwhile, the data-driven approach embedded in the partnership supports faster and smarter decisions, strengthening the overall payment reliability of Freenow by Lyft.

“For Freenow, empowering users with effortless mobility means providing a payment experience that is inherently seamless and dependable”, stated Chris von Rumohr, product and engineering fintech deputy at Lyft.

Von Rumohr is saying that they selected Checkout.com for its “AI-driven optimizations, high payment performance, and strong local payment processing capabilities across Europe.”

The deputy further noted, “The team took the time to understand the unique challenges of operating in the enterprise mobility market and delivered solutions that fit our needs exactly.”

It was quite a journey for the two companies. There was a point in time when Freenow by Lyft was looking for a payments partner capable of matching its goals with performance, technical prowess, and a deep understanding of local payment dynamics. They were able to do so with Checkout.com.

But this isn’t the first time that the two companies are forging a deal. Checkout.com has previously assisted Freenow by Lyft to enhance its post-paid payment experience, wherein payments are taken only after a journey has been completed. This eases all the complexities involved.

Checkout.com operates in over a whopping 180 cities across Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Poland, Ireland, and Australia.

Meanwhile, Freenow by Lyft, is a European multi-mobility app. It offers a wide range of mobility options within just a single app, from taxis and private cars, to eScooters, eBikes, eMopeds, carsharing, and public transport, among various others.

Freenow by Lyft then combines traditional taxi services with modern micromobility and public transport options, expanding Lyft’s global reach and creating a more comprehensive mobility solution.
