Americans relying on food assistance funded by the government are now eligible to take advantage of their benefits with Uber Eats for over 50 grocery and convenience stores across the nation. Read on for the list.
Yesterday, Uber Eats announced the expansion of its list of retailers for households using the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, or the EBT, or the Electronic Benefits Transfer payments for purchases made on the Uber Eats app.
According to the USDA Food and Nutrition Service, SNAP takes charge of providing food benefits to low-income families, so they can supplement their grocery budget. This way, they could afford the nutritious food essentials for their health and well-being.
“We are ensuring programs work harder to encourage healthy eating and lifestyle habits, including through the SNAP Food Restriction Waivers,” USDA Food and Nutrition Service stated.
Meanwhile, the Electronics Benefits Transfer pertains to a system comparable to a debit card, allowing recipients of government assistance to pay for their purchases directly.
“We believe that everyone deserves the convenience of delivery, and with this growing list of merchant partners we can continue to provide access to the fresh food that families and individuals need, especially those without access to reliable transportation for whom food delivery can be a lifeline,” Hashim Amin, head of grocery and retail delivery at Uber North America, told the Ridesharing Forum team.
