Ah, the Upper East Side in fabulous New York City. What’s the first thing that comes to mind? Perhaps the voice-over from the teen drama series from the late 2000s, “Gossip Girl,” mentioning the place in the narration.
True, this neighborhood in the Big Apple is all about the luxury since many of the city’s wealthiest communities live here. So, here is also where you can find the most sophisticated restaurants and coffee shops.
A few months ago, this team reported that Grubhub experienced a massive data breach incident.
According to the media, the names, email addresses, and phone numbers of not just the Grubhub customers but also restaurants and drivers who interacted with the platform’s customer care unit were affected.
Recently, another Grubhub cyberattack has been affecting coffee shops on the Upper East Side. Their response? To scream for help. Very New Yorker, indeed. Here’s the scoop.
Angered
NBC News, the biggest news outlet in the United States, reported how this French café in the Upper East Side lost thousands of dollars from orders when they ran into trouble with their Grubhub account. Which restaurant won’t if several people nowadays prefer ordering online?
For over a decade now, this French coffee shop has been serving everything French delights to New Yorkers, from fresh croissants to refreshing beverages.
The coffee shop, Le Moulin, which takes its name from the famous Moulin Rouge performance in France.
In case you don’t know, restaurants don’t readily get their earnings from online orders, such as via the Grubhub app. Instead, they receive those earnings collectively.
However, Grubhub told them their January earnings were deposited “to a bank account.” Creepy.
One of the owners told NBC News that when Grubhub echoed the last digits of the bank account, they confirmed it wasn’t theirs. Oops. The app assured them they would investigate.
“It’s a big loss… We want the business back,” the owners told the Ridesharing Forum team.
Apparently, even their February earnings got stolen!
The amount Grubhub owes them has reached $6,000, approximately.
The news agency took the initiative to connect with Grubhub and discovered this was not an isolated account.
They eventually got their money back.
Grubhub now allows alcohol deliveries from 7-Eleven
Still centering on Grubhub New York, the app now permits orders and deliveries of alcohol from 7-Eleven, the company revealed with ridesharing media on Thursday.
Usually, 7-Eleven won’t be on the list of stores where you can order food or items online, for some weird reason.
“Today’s customers aren’t just ordering dinner—they’re looking for smarter, more convenient ways to check multiple things off their list in a single tap,” said Emma Cai, the director of product management at Grubhub. “With multi-store ordering, we’re creating a more unified shopping and delivery experience that reflects how people actually live—combining everything from sushi to snacks to birthday bouquets in one order.”
The added features currently already allow users to combine items from two eligible stores into a single order nationwide and on Seamless in New York City. You can remember that Seamless is partnered again with Grubhub.
“We’re seeing growing demand for delivery options beyond traditional restaurant meals, with alcohol orders on Grubhub increasing by more than 20 percent year over year,” Grubhub said in their official statement.
