For Postmates, Christmas Is Beyond Gift Giving, But Showing Compassion To Calamity Victims

Let’s give some holiday cheers to… the Boys & Girls Club families of Altadena!

Altadena was among the biggest hit areas of the Eaton Fire, one of history’s most destructive wildfires that occurred in Los Angeles County in Southern California. The fire erupted on the night of January 7th in the San Gabriel Mountains’ Eaton Canyon. A powerful Santa Ana wind event worsened the devastation as it spread the fire into foothill communities, such as Altadena.

Residents in Altadena suffered major losses. Beautiful churches that once housed solemn masses, community gardens that became venues for conversations and relaxation, and local businesses got destroyed, together with entire residential neighborhoods. Nearly half of the vicinity’s Black households were affected, too.

Thankfully, there’s the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena that became a hub of relief for the families in the area after the fire. So, bringing that cheer to the club is a moment to cherish.

Almost a year after the incident, the community is still building and recovering, but Christmas was never the same.

Postmates would always be quiet in the newsroom, but when it does speak, it speaks heaps. The delivery app has decided to serve up Christmas trees and pizza dinners in partnership with local businesses to cheer up those affected by the wildfires.

A video of the happy kids thanking Postmates in unison could be seen on Instagram.

On December 17th, a Postmates delivery truck arrived as the kids watched in delight. The delivery truck lit up like Christmas trees featured gigantic replicas of burgers, freies, and ice cream as it pulled up in front of the Mackenzie-Scott branch of the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena, but also adorned with real Christmas trees, twinkling lights, inflatable decorations, and STEAM-inspired toys for that education twist. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. Did you know if even snowed that day?

The kids in the holiday party enjoyed face-painting activities, as well as crafts, while munching pizza slices. Postmates partnered with local restaurants, including Prime Pizza, HomeState, Kismet Rotisserie, and Howlin’ Rays, to deliver meals, gifts, and tokens of appreciation to local non-profit organizations and the LA Fire Station 11 that have supported the recovery efforts in Altadena.

Postmates is proactive in helping the community affected by the Eaton Fire. As a matter of fact, it collaborated with Uber to pledge as much as $3 million towards fire relief efforts in the immediate aftermath of the wildfire. The partnership continues until today.

For the Altadena community, this Christmas season is the first since they got displaced, and homes and businesses were devastated, so this initiative provided moments of delight, comfort, and togetherness amid the long-term grief, guiding individuals and families to get back to where they used to be, and how they usually lived. Postmates is a platform where you can order food, groceries, alcohol, and retail items, and have them delivered to your doorsteps.
