Food Delivery Apps Could Nearly Double Your Meal Costs? Study Shows

If you’re not yet using food delivery apps, you need to wake up. Lots of people order food online, many on a weekly or almost on a daily basis. But, in this Ridesharing Forum scoop, you’ll realize why that convenience could sometimes come with a hefty cost. Read on.

Getting lunch or dinner delivered to your doorstep is so much easier and more convenient, rather than running through a drive-thru, or beating the road traffic just to try your cravings at your favorite restaurant.

But, a new study in Oklahoma shows that a $10 meal dining in could rack up to as much as $20 when you order them online. In other words, that price shoots up 80 percent! Whoa.

“Forty percent of Americans order food via food delivery apps, and that’s a big deal ‘coz there’s not a whole lot of us who could afford to add an extra 80 percent onto our food budgets,” Matt Schulz of online lending marketplace Lending Tree told ridesharing media.

People are aware that ordering food online incurs delivery fees, but nothing is as big as the figures that this study is showing.

Furthermore, the mathematics done by the Lending Tree showed that the significant upcharge customers pay for the convenience of delivery is often an “afterthought,” the media continued. In other words, people don’t care about the high price. And that’s because busy individuals just want meals delivered to them in a few minutes. After all, simply, well, they’re hungry. Among workers, they lack the time to step out and get their lunch. However, the researchers stated that you should be aware of what you spend on meals.

“This could be a… wake up call to help you re-think if you may be doing this more often than you should,” Schulz added.

Convenience costs money, so you must make sure you know what you’re paying for.
