On Wednesday, Amazon United Arab Emirates and the Dubai Future Founding unveiled the brand-new innovative program which allows Dubai residents to contribute to the gig economy by handling on-foot deliveries to customers. This way, they could earn more income by delivering Amazon packages on foot in the densely populated areas of the emirate.
More earning opportunities
This program, which is in a pilot run-through with Amazon United Arab Emirates, is providing opportunities for Arabs and small business owners in the country to earn stable and flexible incomes. This way, people could take more advantage of their working hours and businesses could scale more efficiently.
The program follows a new delivery model that cuts down reliance on vehicles to ease traffic congestion and lower carbon emissions, which directly contributes to Dubai’s long-term sustainability goals, all the while ensuring faster and more efficient last-mile delivery in crowded neighborhoods.
In partnership with Sandbox Dubai
This project is being done in partnership with Sandbox Dubai. Sandbox Dubai is part of the Government of Dubai – a centralized and innovative platform that offers a structured approach to regulatory modernization, enabling innovators and companies to test their products, services, and business models under adaptive regulatory supervision.
It is a significant transformational project within D33 or Dubai’s Economic Agenda, which aims to double the country’s economy within the next 10 years and position it among the world’s top three economic cities.
In the Arab world, economic cities “are full fledge cities that are funded, developed and operated by the private sector under government oversight and enablement.”
Under the agreement with Amazon, this initiative for the gig economy sector has gained the approval of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Dubai Future Foundation.
“Less traffic. Lower emissions. More opportunity,” stated on the official X post of the Dubai Future Foundation “Under Sandbox Dubai, and in collaboration with Amazon UAE, a new pilot is exploring on-foot last-mile deliveries, supporting flexible income, easing congestion, and reducing emissions in dense areas. The initiative is part of Dubai’s D33 Economic Agenda, providing a safe environment to trial innovative business models and shape future-ready regulations.”
