Drone Food Deliveries Are Expanding In North Carolina

North Carolina, otherwise known as the Old North State, welcomes over 40 million people every year, exploring what this American destination has to offer.

In North Carolina, you can visit attractions such as Biltmore, Wright Brothers National Memorial, Battleship North Carolina, the North Carolina Arboretum, the NASCAR Hall of Fame, and so much more.

As you find yourself here, you might also chance upon watching a drone flying in the sky. But no, those drones are less likely to be surveying the land or taking video shots. Instead, they are carrying items for delivery to residents.

Drone food deliveries

Drone food deliveries are already up and running in North Carolina. This month, the service launched at the Arboretum Shopping Center in South Charlotte. The host platform is DoorDash, whose users can place small orders from several partner restaurants.

Ridesharing media reported that the drones can fly up to 65 miles per hour even under light rain and windy conditions.

People are gradually seeing the benefits of drone food deliveries over what’s traditional simply because they can get their orders when they need them immediately.

Ideal for business

However, aside from speed and convenience, drone food deliveries are also considered a boost for business, of course.

“You have just as bad of traffic as you have in Dallas, where [the partner company] has their other drone facilities,” Paul Herndon, the president of American Asset Corporation, said. “So, that DoorDash driver… how many stop lights do they have to go through? Is traffic moving at that time [of delivery] or not? So, the value [of the drones] — you can really see.”

Furthermore, this kind of delivery also allows drivers to handle more complicated orders. But, food delivery platforms are making it clear that they are never meant to replace drivers’ work, like what artificial intelligence is doing to professionals.

“ATMs didn’t replace bank teller jobs,” DoorDash told the media. “It actually exploded the number of bank tellers, because it made the service more available.”

Users are optimistic that the trend of drone food deliveries will continue.

“It’s going to be faster,” someone commented about this option. “It’s going to be more convenient, and it’s just a great benefit to the neighborhood.”

Drone deliveries are also becoming ever more popular, even in other parts of North Carolina. It’s the future. For more news stories like this, you are encouraged to share this piece around with your family and friends.
