DoorDash x… Spotify?! The Food Delivery App Hires Music Platform's Advertising Head As Chief Revenue Officer

For why would you play music in the background while receiving your DoorDash order? For why would a DoorDash delivery guy turn on his Spotify while in the process of delivering your orders, from waiting for them in the restaurant to when they’re driving? Unless that delivery staff is waiting for so long.

Perhaps it is possible to play music from your playlist while waiting for your orders… improvisation is your middle name. Well, this may be what DoorDash was thinking when it suddenly hired Spotify’s Lee Brown in the position of chief revenue officer. Why not?

But, here’s the twist.

Brown is Spotify’s advertising head. What?!

He also held the position of global head of advertising business and platform at Spotify, the vice-president. It was in 2019 when he joined the team, overseeing more than 1,500 employees in the sales, marketing, advertising revenue partnerships, and other departments. He was also handling advertising operations, engineering, and product research and development.

So, what happened? Spotify issued this statement:

“Spotify and Lee Brown have mutually agreed to part ways.”

No frills, no fluffs.

His legacy with Spotify is unquestionable. After leaving Spotify, Brown led the streaming platform across a $2 billion ads business along almost 90 markets globally, monitoring sales, business development, marketing, product, and engineering sub-teams.

Brown with DoorDash’s Tom Pickett, who left the company last August to become chief executive officer of meditation app, Headspace Inc.

In its official sense, a chief revenue officer oversees all revenue-generating departments, aligning marketing, sales, and customer success strategies. Their ulterior goal is to drive growth, improve profitability, and guarantee consistent revenue streams by optimizing processes, managing teams, and identifying brand-new business opportunities.

Apart fom identifying business operations, they likewise strengthen customer relationships to boost long-term value. Important team members.

If you want to course your career to brighter future, you must change jobs and it’s a rotation, musn’t you?

Going back to the meat of this discussion, Brown will start in late August this year, reporting to DoorDash’s COO, Prabir Adarkar. The new revenue officer will oversee revenue across the key markets of DoorDash in the lines of restaurants, retail, groceries, and emerging categories in the USA, Canada, and Australia. The rest of the job is history.

DoorDash dominates two-thirds of the United States food delivery market. In June, the app announced it had obtained advertising tech company Symbiosys for $175 million to match the movement of a business that generates over $1 billion yearly.

The secondary objective of this deal is that advertisers could have the ability to manage their marketing messages on external sites, such as on social, in addition to the app’s social media accounts, website, and Pinterest, maybe?

This Tuesday, Spotify will report its second-quarter results, while DoorDash’s second-quarter business results are for release this August 6th.
