DoorDash’s Zesty Aims To Resolve The Dilemma Of Finding Restaurants

Let’s admit it. Even if you know every restaurant around your vicinity, it is still difficult to decide where it’s best to eat. Spending minutes to hours thinking? People have been there.

DoorDash is here to test new ways to help you find the best restaurants nearby.

Last Monday, DoorDash unveiled their AI-powered, standalone app Zesty that uses artificial intelligence technology to generate local restaurant recommendations.

How does it do that? The app aggregates data and information from Google Maps, Reddit, Eater, and even TikTok, that’s right. Just how many times did you find the restaurant because it was promoted or featured by a TikToker.

The cities of New York City and San Francisco could now experience Zesty’s beta version.

Right on the homepage, users will see a map of their area. There is also a search bar that invites them to “build their going out vibe,” something like that, or their preferences.

To further help you find the ideal dining location, there are also suggested prompts like “nearby spots that open late night,” or if you are into spontaneous group dining with friends, maybe “brunch spots good for groups.” Or, you may customize your query via the search bar.

Then, the Zesty app works to recommend restaurants that fit these criteria, with details such as addresses, phone numbers, websites, food pictures, and even descriptions that are professionally, beautifully written, thanks to AI.

The name “Zesty” is the perfect choice as it connotes “extracting your favorite restaurant.”

It’s also interactive. Users can post images and reviews of their dining experiences. Feel free to talk not-too-optimistic about the restaurant. These posts appear in a social networking group known as “Zesties.” Zesties can follow each other, and just like how there are Top Contributors on Facebook, there are also Top Zesties.

DoorDash decided to create a separate app for this, to separate between the more casual and social way of dining, from the more urgent way to order food.

A DoorDash representative told Ridesharing Forum that the company is “always looking for new ways to help people connect with the best of their communities,” and Zesty is part of that.

“We’re excited to learn from early testers as we keep shaping what local discovery can look like,” the spokesperson added.

It’s also fair since even restaurants that are not on DoorDash will be on the Zesty app. However, they won’t get prioritized.

DoorDash is a food delivery app that makes it easier for you to order your cravings – without leaving your home. A delivery rider will visit and pick up your order from the restaurant. As they do, you can track the progress of your delivery via the DoorDash app. Voila! Several restaurants are on DoorDash, from the popular ones to the gourmet options, and even the small restaurants you love nearby your area.
