There is a new “crisis” plaguing the world today, and it’s not a pandemic. Rather, it is a trade war. Yes, you’ve probably learned about this if you’re following the news.
This year’s trade war isn’t the first. Throughout history, there have been a lot of trade wars that have occurred, the most famous of which is probably the Opium Wars. Then, you also have the United States and Japan automobile trade war, the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, and even the Chicken Wars and the 1985 Pasta War. All true stories.
Now, as the world welcomes February, a trade war has erupted between the United States, Canada, and Mexico when U.S. President Donald Trump imposed near-universal tariffs on goods coming in from those two other nations to the U.S.
Investment experts say tariffs are trade barriers that make imported products more expensive than domestic ones. These new tariffs that the United States president has imposed are expected to raise the prices of goods across the globe.
Just today, Trump has imposed double tariffs on Canadian steel and metals.
Believe it or not, the delivery industry has something to say, at least on the part of DoorDash.
Amidst the escalating tension on tariffs between various nations, leading delivery platform DoorDash has opened a new dedicated office in Toronto. It’s pretty, and it’s big.
The office, which spans over 2,000 square meters, is located just next to David Pecaut Square at 200 Wellington Street West and is three times the size of its previous office in the vicinity.
It’s an office designed to accommodate the work-life balance of DoorDash’s workers. Aside from the workstations, at 100, there is a game room. Rooms are named after renowned streets in Toronto, such as Kensington, Ossington, and Danforth.
In just under 10 years after the company first expanded into Canada, DoorDash has been hiring for over 20 positions, including roles in marketing, sales, engineering, strategy, and operations. If you want to gain experience working for DoorDash, this is your time to apply.
No further details about the office have been shared on the media so far other than what you read above. But one thing is for sure: DoorDash is keeping its head held high despite the ongoing trade war.
