In today’s DoorDash news round-up, Smack’n Tacos would leave DoorDash if the fees won’t get cut. Then, a T-Mobile promo you don’t want to miss.
Big restaurant plans on leaving DoorDash
You wouldn’t know it, but DoorDash has fees that are making some major restaurants like Smack’n Tacos leave the app. Restaurants are signing up on these food delivery platforms – think of Grubhub and Uber Eats, too – in order to reach to more customers easier.
The fees that are bringing issues to the table? The app’s high commission fees.
Smack’n Tacos owner, who also owns Spread N Buns, shared that when they first started appearing on DoorDash, pick-up orders contributed to 30 percent of their sales, even during the holiday season.
“In the last wo months, it increased to 70 percent of their sales,” they further noted
This time, DoorDash charges their restaurant 30 percent on orders made on the app, alongside marketing fees weekly, forcing them to raise their online prices just to offset the costs.
“People say, ‘Go ahead and increase it to 30 percent, so if people want to order through DoorDash, essentially you’re just making them pay their own commission fee,’” the restaurant told ridesharing media. “But I can’t do that. I just can’t keep increasing my prices to offset that 30%. It’s not fair to me, but it’s also not fair to the customer.”
In response, they’ve created their own app in the hopes their customers would make the switch, so they’d be able to manage the fees so well. However, they’re still on DoorDash, nevertheless.
