It’s a disease seemingly simple to cure, but it’s not. You’ve perhaps been part of this, Ridesharing Forum bets.
Have you ever found yourself being reprimanded by your ridesharing driver because you failed to close the door of the car completely? Well, you couldn’t be blamed either if you’re in a hurry.
To mend the gap, DoorDash is finding ways to provide a solution for this, and put an end for this once and for all.
Recently, a Reddit content titled “Craziest Offer” is going semi-viral after it revealed the app offering $6.25 – yes, a payment – to drive a few blocks to close a Waymo car door that was left open. Once this task has been completed and verified completed, the driver would receive an additional $5.
The Reddit poster had never seen an offer like this before, so they are asking other netizens if they had been asked to close a robotaxi’s door. Some even wondered if the driver was faking the order entirely for some odd reason.
In other words, getting paid to close a car’s door. Face palm.
The post got bombarded with comments.
“I wonder if they charge the passenger for this? If not, please everyone keep your Waymo doors open to create more of these offers for drivers. This is amazing and we need more of these!” Reddit user InsanelyAverageFella commented.
Another joked, “You [got] actually ‘door’ dashed.”
“I don’t take these offers anymore. They do not pay out right away and say you will receive it at some point. I never did, so I reject them all since they don’t count again your acceptance rate,” netizen nsrvvrgm2b closed the conversation.
So, are these “gimmicks” real or fake?
DoorDash has confirmed it is real. Face palm, again.
Ridesharing Forum and other ridesharing media reached out to DoorDash about this semi-viral content, and the company has confirmed that yes, they are paying people to close car doors.
“[We are] currently running a pilot program in Atlanta to enhance its AV fleet efficiency. In the rare event a vehicle door is left ajar, preventing the car from departing, nearby Dashers are notified, allowing Waymo to get its vehicles back on the road quickly,” DoorDash pointed out in an official statement.
That’s amazing news. Especially that, as simple as this habit of ensuring car doors are closed after every ride is a matter of safety for not just the driver and the passenger, but for the people around. For more ridesharing news, keep browsing this Ridesharing Forum website.
