It’s the collaborations of collaborations. Lyft has partnered with the Chicago Department of Transportation, its mayor Brandon Johnson, the Chicago Park District, and the operator of Chicago’s Divvy bikeshare system to introduce brand-new Divvy stations and other improvements along Chicago’s lakefront, designed to make the lives of the people in here much more convenient.
July is the busiest month for Divvy, especially as it’s back-to-school, and there are over a million rides in a single month for the first-time in the system’s history.
According to Lyft, the new stations located in the system’s most highly-trafficked areas will make it incredible easier for residents and tourists to look for and return those Divvy bikes while accessing beaches, parks, and other popular lakefront destinations.
Lyft installed the Divvy stations in these locations:
- DuSable Lake Shore Drive and Jackson Drive
- DuSable Lake Shore Drive and Balbo Drive
- North Avenue Beach
- North Avenue Beach Pedestrian Bridge
- Lincoln Park Zoo
"A Divvy ride is one of the best ways to experience Chicago. By adding stations where demand is highest, we’re making it easier for more people to explore our lakefront, connect to parks and beaches using affordable, sustainable transportation. My administration remains committed to advancing diverse, sustainable transportation options and inclusive, complete streets for every Chicagoan,” Mayor Brandon Johnson told RSF.
Aside from those new stations, the Chicago Department of Transportation is also adding designated Divvy bike racks and introducing brand-new parking management measures east of DuSable Lake Shore Drive, located between Fullerton Parkway and Grand Avenue to support a more orderly parking for bikes in the area.
Riders, therefore, are recommended to end their trips at Divvy stations, overflow corrals directly adjacent to stations, or designated bike racks throughout the area, helping keep the Lakefront Trail clear whilst maintaining convenient access to the lakefront.
“Divvy just set an all-time ridership record, with more than 47,000 trips in a single day, and much of that growth is happening right along the lakefront, especially in one-way trips to and from the beach,” stated Divvy General Manager Sean Madison. “These stations add supply where it’s needed most, keeping the system reliable along Chicago’s Front Yard, and the new parking measures will help the Trail stay clear as ridership climbs. None of this works without our longstanding partnerships with the Chicago Department of Transportation and the Chicago Park District, which have allowed Divvy parking to become part of the public right of way. That’s the math every time Divvy grows: more room for riders, less clutter along the lake.”
In addition, there will also be fresh Divvy charging stations outside the Obama Presidential Center in Jackson Park, makingthis the first Divvy charging station on the South Side, helping support reliable eBiking services for visitors to one of the newest cultural destinations in Chicago.
