DoorDash goes down under as it creates a brand-new partnership with Australian discount department store retail chain BIG W. Here’s how it will work.
Australian discount department store big chain BIG W has begun introducing same-day deliveries and offerings through its newest partnership with the world’s number one food delivery app based in the USA, DoorDash.
Through this collaboration, customers in participating areas can receive their orders on the day of purchase, thus the concept of same-day deliveries.
Okay, so it will cover thousands of items sold on BIG W, including everyday essentials, and this year’s Book Week costumes.
If there’s A&W, there’s BIG W. BIG W is a popular Australian chain of discount department stores owned and managed by Woolworths Group. It was founded in the early 1960s in New South Wales, but the “W” in its name isn’t “Wales,” but rather “Woolworths.”
BIG W operates almost 180 physical retail locations alongside an online shop and digital marketplace, offering affordable everyday items for families
“Through opening a faster delivery service across BIG W’s extensive range of everyday essentials, we are making it even easier for families to access the items they need when time matters most,” stated the beautiful DoorDash Australia and New Zealand sales and partnerships head Katy Rogers.
For BIG W chief customer officer Ryan Gracie, this strengthens the lifeline for busy families in Australia, same-day deliveries.
“Same-day delivery with DoorDash is a lifeline for busy families, particularly for unexpected and last-minute needs. Whether it’s a Book Week costume pivot, a rainy-day craft kit, or emergency household supplies, families can now have those items delivered directly to their doors within hours,” Gracie told Ridesharing Forum.
While this collaboration banks upon the habit of Australians to procrastinate when shopping, why cares, right?
It coincides and supports the research showing that 49 percent of Australian parents would organize Book Week character costumes until the last minute. And, for sure, you are guilty about this, too.
Also, in Queensland, there’s 55 percent of parents identified as delaying preparations. Of course, considering children changing their minds about their costumes, since, for instance, what if you like them to dress up as Cinderella, but they like to dress up as the Fairy Godmother?
This move also follows BIG W’s decision in April to cut shelf prices on over 2,000 products, in a step intended to help customers facing “cost-of-living pressures,” so this partnership comes in the perfect timing.
This isn’t the first-time BIG W entered into a partnership with DoorDash as there was a separate partnership in December 2025, part of the plans to broaden grocery delivery options across Australia.
