Who is the culprit? Is it Grubhub or the restaurants, or perhaps the customers, maybe? The owner of The Food Box on Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach, a picturesque summertime destination in San Diego, has lately accused the food delivery app of being a scam. Read on for more.
Never before
Branding itself as “so much more than just a burger,” The Food Box has the following gastronomic choices on the menu: Truffle Fries, Onion Rings, Pacific Rings, Chicken Sandwiches, and Fried Chicken Sandwich, among various others.
The restaurant owner, Jorge dela Vega, started it out, stating he has fallen victim to this scam that has cost him literally several hundreds of dollars via the famous food service app, Grubhub, adding he has never experienced this yet before, worrying that other restaurant owners like him might experience that, too.
“That’s one of the main things that I told my team after that, that every time that we get a big order, please let me know,” he stated. “I checked my email, and I had an email from Grubhub telling me that they are going to refund an order for a customer.”
He went on to say he phoned the company, telling them he was informed by somebody claiming to be from his restaurant minutes prior that they were unable to fulfill the large orders since “the restaurant was about to close for the night.”
However, he stated that after speaking with his staff, he confirmed that nobody from his own restaurant had called Grubhub to cancel the order. Afterwards, the food was picked up, and he got his money from Grubhub. Clearly, there were individuals attempting to trick the restaurant owner into leaving Grubhub, for perhaps, they’re envious, or insecure of the restaurant’s success, or they want the profits.
Other restaurants whom he told about the issue, such as Square Pizza Co., told ridesharing media, “It gets us worried about it for sure, we just got to wait. If a big order happens, we like to collect first. We go in the DoorDash or the app and say we don’t want that driver to come pick it up no more.”
Grubhub has decided to share their official statements on the matter, saying, “Grubhub is committed to supporting the small business community and helping independent restaurants on our platform grow and reach new customers. We recognize that refund and concession abuse can create frustration for our restaurant partners.”
They further stated that they are continuously addressing this, emphasizing that it has an end-to-end fraud system in place that helps prevent, detect, and resolve diner fraud at various points in the lifecycle of their customers’ orders, so their partner restaurants could keep their heads help up high.
“Our goal is to strike the right balance between supporting diners and protecting our partners, while continuing to invest in technology and processes that reduce fraud over time,” the food delivery platform went on.
