Another Viral DoorDash Driver! Warning Note, Cash Tip, More

Virality is not the road that drivers want to take, but sometimes, they got no choice but to ply that path.

A video of a DoorDash driver captured at the home of the customer, captured by a doorbell and home security camera, is making rounds online.

In the video, it shows that the driver left a warning note, warning the customer she was “lucky” the food hadn’t been tampered with, but some netizens are left confused.

It is showing the delivery staff arriving at the door, immediately appearing so uncomfortable after seeing the customer holding a cash tip.

When the customer, Tamera, opened her door with a cash tip in hand, ready to give to the driver, the driver visibly pulled back.

Tamera insisted the driver get the tip despite his discomfort, but the driver responded, “I didn’t see a tip on the app, and I put a little card in there. So please, keep that. I’m sorry.”

The note being debated about is shown at the end of the viral video, with the caption, “She looked completely embarrassed,” with Tamera being seen asking, “Why? Why?” The note read, “Lucky for you, I didn’t bother the food, but next time consider tipping your driver.”

The note appeared to have been written on a piece of lined paper torn from a spiral notebook.

Some people are siding with the customer, maybe they also go to DoorDash, saying they find it offensive, since the delivery rider seemed to have been demanding a tip, and chose to air her grievance in an offensive way.

Netizens are saying, “The whole tip thing needs to stop entirely – since when did it become obligatory?,” “Isn’t extortion a crime?,” that they wouldn’t have touched the food if they’re given such note, and “These entitled [people take] it up with the customers instead of the company that pays them pennies.”

Other netizens are giving support to Tamera, saying, “She could have been petty and took it anyway, but instead she owned the mistake and apologized.”

A certain Jane Doe commented, “Tipping is charity, I don’t have to give you anything your income is ur business.”

On the other hand, Jason Hobbs stated, “I think Americans have lost all meaning of what you tip is! It is to show appreciation for a good job done! How can you do that if you pay the tip before they have even done the job!”

What is your take on this? Tipping culture is part of American culture, especially among the Whites, so it’s like it has been a way of life, like if you didn’t manage to brush your teeth in a day, it’s going to be a big deal. But what are DoorDash’s rules on tipping?

Well, DoorDash does not mandate tipping like it is a requirement, saying, “Dashers receive 100 percent of customer tips on DoorDash, including checkout tips, post-delivery tips, and cash tips.”

At that point, it should be clear. What are your thoughts on this? Create that account today on Ridesharing Forum to participate in the talks! And, share your insights!
