Well, it’s not yet the holiday season. But, for Amazon, it is the holiday season. Actually, it is the holiday season, right?
Two important news stories for today for Amazon. First, Amazon Shipping is preparing for the holiday delivery surcharges this year, 2026. And, this number one eCommerce company is sure it is on-track to delivery 90 percent of its packages in the USA. Here’s the scoop.
Gearing up for the holiday delivery surcharges
Amazon Shipping revealed it is applying peak season surcharges starting from October 25th to January 16th, 2027 that are more expensive than last year’s holiday fees. Oops, but nevertheless, for as long as the eCommerce company won’t get lost.
For context, the United States ground package delivery service’s temporary charges include a per-package fee and surcharges for packages that are big, heavy, or require additional handling.
Prices of surcharges peak from November 22nd to December 26th.
These peak season surcharges take effect automatically during the applicable dates, and do come in in addition to customers’ existing contracted rates, Amazon added.
They also further noted that the surcharges help maintain service quality and capacity during the highest-demand weeks of the year. Point well-taken.
Other Amazon news
Meanwhile, in other Amazon news, the company’s own delivery network is sure it can handle the rapidly-growing share of its packages in the United States, with a recent internal forecast saying that this figure could reach nine out of 10 packages by 2029. Not perfect, but also not that bad.
The latest preliminary forecast of Amazon puts its own delivery network of over 86 percent for its packages in the USA in 2027, around 87 percent in 2028, and almost 89 percent in 2029, an internal planning document from late July that Ridesharingforum.com obtained stated.
This shift is happening faster than Amazon previously predicted. Its prior estimates put first-party delivery at 83.8 percent of packages in the United States in 2027 and 85% in 2028, according further to the document.
