Amazon’s investments in its last-mile network are achieving unprecedented success. Last-mile networks and deliveries are the final legs of the delivery process, wherein goods are moved from a distribution center or warehouse to the customer’s location.
You may recall that in 2024, Amazon invested a whopping over $3.5 billion in Australia, including infrastructure and employee compensation.
This significant investment in getting packages from Amazon Australia’s logistical sites directly to the doorsteps of its consumers also continues to transform and enhance the several ways Amazon is helping Australians get their orders faster.
Then, Amazon Australia spoke about this, saying, “With delivery stations now located in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Gosford, Newcastle, Geelong, and the Gold Coast, we are closer than ever to our customers, who reap the benefit of faster deliveries.”
As you may very well know, Amazon’s last-mile order fulfillment process is powered by delivery stations. Packages are shipped to these sites from Amazon’s fulfillment and sorting centers.
In the process, once at the delivery stations, the packages are loaded into vehicles for delivery to customers. Here is where Amazon Flex delivery workers enter the scene.
Remember, too, that Amazon’s last-mile operations are supported by Delivery Service Partners and the Delivery Associates who work for them, Amazon Flex Delivery Partners, and third-party carriers.
In just a matter of seven years, this last-mile network has also created thousands of jobs across 12 locations in Australia, via Amazon Flex.
“This massive investment has enabled Amazon to offer enhanced delivery outcomes for customers, including re-attempted deliveries and weekend deliveries, and even more importantly, faster deliveries,” Amazon and Amazon Flex told Ridesharing Forum.
With this investment, faster deliveries are possible, also since there are new perks being offered as well, such as Prime Free Same Day in Perth and Sydney + Prime Free One Day in Melbourne, Brisbane, Geelong, Gosford, Newcastle, Wollongong, Canberra, Gold Coast, Blue Mountains, and Mornington Peninsula, all under the Amazon Prime subscription.
“And we are continuing to invest in the last mile network with two new delivery stations due to open later this year, including a $7 million site currently under construction in Ravenhall, Victoria, which will provide 200 jobs after it opens. And a second site in Western Sydney, due to open before Christmas this year,” Amazon added.
How about new technologies? Of course! By the end of this year, Amazon is expecting to reach its goal of investing over $20 million in next-generation delivery station technology in Australia and all over the world, too.
“We are making a huge investment in various technologies and automation solutions to transform the way we manage packages on their way to customers – to improve the way we work, deliver, and operate in our delivery station network,” said Amazon Australia.
