I have driven with Uber for 4 1/2 years. Starting Dec. 2021, Uber started withholding roughly 30% of my earnings+tips+bonuses and listed the money withheld as “taxes”. I have written and called customer support more times than I can count and NO ONE is able to answer why this money is being withheld. It has been bumped up from “priority support” to “dedicated support” with a request that I give them 72 hours to get back to me. This, after trying to get an answer for 3 weeks.
Anyone have a clue about this? Has this happened to you? I specifically asked whether the $$ is withheld for the IRS or my NYS taxes. No response.
I am beginning to thing it’s a skimming scam.
I’ve contacted the IRS - they tell me nothing, other than maybe I should Re-think working for Uber.
